There are various flower shapes of roses ♡
The rose, known as the "queen of flowers," is a well-loved flower that everyone knows*
There are so many varieties of roses; it is said that over 100,000 types of roses have been hybridized and exist in this world now.
Roses come in many different flower shapes (hanagata) ♡
Flower shape refers to the form of the flower after it has bloomed, and it varies depending on the variety!
It may not be easy to distinguish just by looking, but if you know this as a piece of trivia,
it will surely make your life more enjoyable every time you see a rose... ♡
Here, I'll introduce various types of rose flower shapes*
① High-centered bloom
High-centered (koushin) bloom refers to a flower shape where the center of the flower is high, meaning the core is standing tall*
While this may sound rare when explained this way, in reality, most cut roses are high-centered!
Therefore, many of the roses you see at flower shops and weddings are high-centered varieties*
The petals are characterized by expanding outwards from the center.
② Flat bloom
Flat bloom is exactly as the name suggests, a flower shape that blooms flat and single-petaled*
It is the exact opposite of the high-centered bloom, characterized by an appearance that looks unlike a typical rose.
(Indeed, anyone unfamiliar might not think it’s a rose at all... It looks more like a hibiscus...!)
By the way, this picture features the Dentiboes variety, which falls under the category of modern roses*
The petals have a wavy appearance, giving it an elegant vibe ♡
③ Cup bloom
Cup bloom refers to a flower shape that looks like a bowl when viewed from the side*
It's a soft, round shape that is very cute and popular ♡
Among these, those with a shallow cup are sometimes called shallow cup bloom,
and those with a deep cup are referred to as deep cup bloom.
It has a peony-like appearance.
④ Pompon bloom
Pompon bloom is a flower shape resembling a pompon, with petals slightly curling back to form a ball*
The petals are very finely textured and fluffy, making it easy to identify.
There are many small mini roses (roses with petals measuring under 5 cm) that exhibit this pompon bloom style ♡
⑤ Rosette bloom
Rosette bloom can be visualized by thinking of a classic wedding item, a rosette*
This flower shape is characterized by petals stretching outward in a radiating fashion from the core♩
The inner petals are smaller, and when viewed from above, their dense arrangement is very extravagant, creating this rosette bloom♡
⑥ Quarter rosette bloom
Quarter rosette bloom is similar to rosette bloom, but the core appears to be split into four sections (doesn’t it look that way?)—this is a distinguishing feature and is quite a rare shape*
Additionally, petals bloom in a swirling pattern from the core.
This flower shape has become very popular recently, with more flower shops creating quarter rosette bloom roses♩
⑦ Frill bloom
As you can see, frill bloom is characterized by petals that ripple like a frilly dress*
While it doesn't have an excessive number of petals, it has a very elegant and lovely appearance ♡
⑧ Dianthus bloom
Finally, we introduce the dianthus bloom, characterized by petals with fine cuts at the tips*
This shape is inspired by the appearance of the dianthus flower.
A rose with jagged petals is quite rare, isn’t it! It looks unlike a rose...!
Pay attention to the flower shape when looking at roses ♡
I introduced rose flower shapes that you might not have the opportunity to know in everyday life*
When you purchase roses at a flower shop or choose a rose bouquet or floral decorations for a wedding,
it would be lovely to check what shape the rose blooms in too ♡
