"More Expensive than a Friend's Gift! What Kind of Favors are Everyone Choosing for Their Relatives?"
2018.09.21 published
What are you doing for gifts for relatives?
We received the following inquiry from a bride-to-be on marry's Instagram.
===========
I'm troubled about gifts for relatives!
Since they give more monetary gifts than regular guests, I feel I need to return something of equivalent value...
What kind of gifts did everyone choose for their relatives?
How much did you decide to spend?

I asked our followers on Instagram stories for their answers, so I will share all the responses♡
Response 1
I chose a swaying pearl cup and the classic Wedgwood towel!
I wanted something memorable and unique, so I chose the swaying cup!
Wedgwood is a well-known brand, so I added that as a reliable item!
Response 2
Catalog gift 10,000 yen
Ochazuke (tea rice) 1,500 yen
Danish bread 1,000 yen
as gifts!
Response 3
For relatives' gifts,
I gave a catalog gift worth 5,000 yen, a coffee maker worth 3,000 yen.
And a 1,000 yen sweet as a gift☺︎❣️
Response 4
I treated relatives similarly to bosses, choosing slightly more expensive items as the main gift than those for friends.
For the two additional items, I went with the same as everyone else.
After confirming the money received as gifts,
if it was significantly more than expected, I returned additional items as thank-you gifts.
Specifically, for my parents, I kept it as is, but since I received more than anticipated from my siblings,
I discussed with my parents and sent expensive catalog gifts and sweets!
Response 5
I didn't like catalogs, so for relatives, I sent "tableware" as the main gift along with sweets and auspicious items🙆♀️
Response 6
Tiffany plate, red and white steamed buns, roasted beans,
seaweed, soup shaped like a sea bream, amounting to about 10,000 yen!
Response 7
Couple’s chopsticks and a certificate of appreciation for parenting!
Response 8
I chose a catalog featuring special products from all 47 prefectures!
It's worth 10,000 yen✨
Response 9
About gifts for relatives💡
Since we had our wedding in Hawaii, on the day we only gave a lei as a gift,
and after returning to Japan, we either handed them over or sent them home by mail!
The contents were:
① Set of 5 small plates with Hawaiian patterns
② A photo frame used as a place card at the party with a picture from that day
③ A handmade mini-album
④ A letter
All four items were put in a fabric shop bag purchased in Hawaii!
The total cost was about 9,000 yen🌺
Response 10
A 8,640 yen catalog along with the same Danish and towel as others.
Gifts for relatives should be slightly more expensive*
Since you receive more congratulatory gifts from relatives and superiors, you will likely choose gifts that are more expensive than those for friends.*
In particular, many people have decided to give gifts to relatives that are more personal, compared to those given to superiors.
You should know your family best.
Please choose a wonderful gift that you think they will surely appreciate♩
