In this article, I will introduce photo spots in Tokyo with beautiful illuminations where you can take self-photos in winter.
These spots are also recommended for dates, so be sure to check them out*
Tokyo's Free Illumination Spot ① Marunouchi Nakadori
The Marunouchi area near Tokyo Station is a classic spot for photo shoots, not just in winter but year-round. It's especially popular during the illumination season*
There are several streets, each with slightly different illumination designs.
This is the illumination of Marunouchi Nakadori.
About 1 million champagne-colored LED lights decorate the street trees, creating a warm and sparkling atmosphere perfect for wedding photos ♡
Tokyo's Free Illumination Spot ② Otemachi Nakadori
Otemachi Nakadori is a short street of about 400 meters directly aligned with Marunouchi Nakadori.
Here, too, many LED lights are decorated on the street trees, creating a glamorous light tunnel ♡
I want to take pictures standing in the middle of the street when there are fewer people around*
Tokyo's Free Illumination Spot ③ Tokyo Station Building
The Tokyo Station building is illuminated from sunset to 9 PM year-round, not just in winter ♩
Taking wedding photos in front of the grand Tokyo Station is incredibly dramatic ♡
This photo is from an event called "Tokyo Michi Terrace," held exclusively from December 24 to December 28.
You can enjoy a fusion of visuals and illuminations, although it might be difficult to take pre-wedding photos because of the crowd. I want to go take lots of pictures with my partner*
Tokyo's Free Illumination Spot ④ Shibuya Blue Cave
The Blue Cave illumination, which runs about 800 meters from Yoyogi Park's keyaki trees to Shibuya Koen-dori, is also recommended for self-photos*
The fantastical space illuminated entirely in blue feels just like the caves of Capri Island in Italy!
The best time to go is around 5 PM when the lights turn on or from 9 PM to 10 PM when there are fewer people♩
Tokyo's Free Illumination Spot ⑤ Ebisu Garden Place
At Ebisu Garden Place, a bright red carpet is laid down in the middle of the street, exuding luxury*
With a large Christmas tree and a Baccarat chandelier on display, it looks like many stunning wedding photos can be taken from various angles♩
This spot is also recommended during less crowded times, around 4 PM for lighting or between 11 PM and midnight when it ends.
Tokyo's Free Illumination Spot ⑥ Caretta Shiodome
The illumination at Caretta Shiodome, a shopping facility near Shimbashi Station, is a collaboration with Disney princesses♡
It features lantern illuminations inspired by Rapunzel and rose illuminations from Beauty and the Beast, creating a space that Disney lovers will adore*
I want to wear a cute dress while my partner wears a stylish jacket, creating beautiful photos together♡
Tokyo's Free Illumination Spot ⑦ Roppongi Midtown
The illumination at Roppongi Midtown has a space theme. Blue lights shine across a wide area ♡
In 2018, there were floating balloon spheres and bubbles, making it very unique♩
Roppongi is also close to Keyakizaka Street, which is famous for its illuminations, so it's worth visiting both spots together*
Which Illumination Will You Visit?
I introduced photo spots in Tokyo where you can take self-photos among beautiful illuminations.
One thing to note is that all these places are public areas. If you plan to go take photos, be mindful of the time when there are fewer people around, and try to take pictures quickly while being aware of your surroundings*
May you capture memorable winter wedding photos under the stunning illuminations ♡
