"Overwhelmed by Vendors, Spam, and Promotions: Instagram Search is No Longer Helpful for Wedding Planning!"
2018.12.15 published
Hah. I knew it.
Recently, isn’t Instagram really hard to use?
Not that the functions or design are bad,
or that it’s slow and heavy,
but simply, “I can’t find what I want even if I search for it!!!!”
I really feel that way.
Have you ever felt that way too??
It’s disappointing at times!
For example, when searching for images for a wedding,
☑ Even if I want to see colored dresses and search with the colored dress hashtag, wedding dresses come up.
☑ I wanted to see photos of welcome boards, but when I searched the welcome board hashtag, marriage certificates showed up.
☑ I looked at the wedding DIY hashtag to see what handmade items brides are making, but only handmade creator's and store's works come up.
And so on.
(You must have experienced this, right???)
Even though there are effective search keywords.
This problem of not being able to find what you want (too much noise) seems prevalent not just in the wedding industry but also in the fashion industry.
(The hashtag for dresses gets flooded with ads for fake-looking brand bags and points-earning sites.)
However, when I want to find food-related content, I rarely encounter issues,
because it’s almost never the case that a café in Shinjuku shows up under the hashtag “#OmotesandoCafé,”
and when I want to search for “#YakinikuLunch,” I don’t often find it inundated with spaghetti posts.
I don’t have such experiences much.
(You should be the same!)
You can definitely find cafés in Omotesando and Yakiniku lunches.
Collecting wedding-related information on Instagram might be difficult...
The reason it’s still easy to search for restaurants, even in Shinjuku, is that it makes no sense for someone looking in the Shibuya hashtag to find Shinjuku restaurants.
It doesn’t help to show someone looking for a café a yakiniku dish.
But for weddings and fashion, there are no such divisions, since (everyone is looking for multiple items simultaneously).
I think the result of companies and stores wanting to be seen by as many people as possible is leading to the meaninglessness of such hashtag searches.
Plus, hashtags filled with such posts are boring, unattractive, and unhelpful, causing the general consumer base to dwindle...
However, since companies continue to post, the number of hashtag posts just keeps inflating...
This leads to such a cycle.
For example, the hashtag “#PreBride” has 4.1 million posts as of December 15, 2018, but most of them are from businesses rather than actual pre-brides.
We don’t want to use Instagram like this anymore. It’s boring...
Because of this, real brides tend to only communicate and exchange information privately among their followers, which can lead to rigid opinions and a narrow perspective.
Google might actually be fun.
It’s been said for a long time that “people don’t search anymore,” but still, when you search on Google, you find a lot of opinions and ideas from various people, and it’s enjoyable.
