Want to know about Royal Asscher♡
Have you checked out the rings from the globally renowned brand "Royal Asscher"?
Royal Asscher is a prestigious diamond jewelry brand that was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1854.
It is the only brand in the world to be honored with the esteemed title of 【Royal】, granted by the Queen of the Netherlands, and its meticulously researched cutting techniques are counted among the "three major cutting brands in the world."
It is also popular in Japan for engagement and wedding rings♡
Let’s introduce Royal Asscher in detail*
Its history is long and profound*
The founder was Isaac Joseph Asscher. At that time, he was known as the world’s foremost diamond cutter.
In 1854, he established a jewelry company named "I.J. Asscher Diamond Company," named after his son, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Isaac Joseph Asscher had two sons, to whom he passed on all the know-how he possessed about diamond cutting.
(Joseph and Abraham, who were taught by their father, a diamond cutter acclaimed as the best in the world, later became representatives of diamond expertise in the 20th century, solidifying the presence and status of the Asscher family in the jewelry world.)
One of the famous achievements of the Asscher family is the invention of the "Asscher Cut," a new diamond cutting technique, by founder Isaac Joseph Asscher eight years after the brand's birth in 1902.
The innovative octagonal shape cut with 58 facets was praised for its wonderful brilliance and was dubbed the "ideal form of diamond."
Initially, the Asscher family patented this "Asscher Cut" technique and methods as their original feature, but
later relinquished the patent rights "for the development of the diamond industry."
The Asscher Cut technique spread to all diamond manufacturers around the world and became a standard among prestigious jewelers.
Furthermore, a turning point for the brand occurred in 1905 when the world's largest diamond rough stone, the "Cullinan" (3,106ct), was discovered in South Africa.
It was presented to King Edward VII of England at the time, and Isaac Joseph Asscher was appointed to cut it.
Diamonds are so hard that even saw blades can bend when cutting them. However, they have the property of breaking apart quickly when a specific point is struck.
Hitting that "specific point" is a skill that only a master craftsman can achieve. The larger the diamond, the more challenging it is to find that point,
and cutting it without failure and while preserving the size of the diamond requires considerable skill.
Isaac Joseph Asscher took eight months to cut the 3,106ct, 621g Cullinan rough stone into nine large diamonds and 96 small diamonds.
Each of the nine diamonds was named Cullinan I to IX and was housed in the Tower of London, or became parts of royal crowns, necklaces, and brooches.
Although the Asscher family had already gained fame as diamond cutters, this event led them to become a royal brand.
The Asscher company has continued to play a leading role in the diamond industry as a family.
In 1980, they were granted the title of 【Royal】 by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, and the brand name changed to Royal Asscher*
In 2000, the Asscher family management continued, and the fifth-generation president, Edward Asscher, and Jupe Asscher embarked on improving the original "Asscher Cut."
The new cut, referred to as the "Royal Asscher Cut," has 74 facets, which is more than the original Asscher Cut with 58 facets.
Furthermore, the quantity of light reflected and refracted is greater than that of the "Emerald Cut," invented by founder Joseph Asscher, enhancing the diamond's brilliance even further.
The Royal Asscher Cut has obtained international patents, making this cutting technique unique to the Royal Asscher company.
