Popular Craft, Porcelain Art ♡
Porcelain art, where you stick transfer paper onto pure white pottery (white porcelain) and create original tableware and small items, is very popular as a hobby or class.
The charm of porcelain art lies in its ease of use; you can enjoy high-quality works using transfer paper like stickers.
Do You Know "Luster"?
Among porcelain art, a high-level technique called "luster" is currently attracting attention.
Luster is a decorating technique for porcelain art. Instead of using transfer paper, you draw the design by hand with a brush.
This technique is seen in antique cups and saucers, such as Old Noritake and Royal Albert, characterized by their rainbow-like surface shine.
"Luster" precisely refers to a liquid made by dissolving metals like gold, silver, copper, cobalt, nickel, and iron in resin and diluting it with organic solvents.
It features fantastical color tones and unique luster. While you cannot mix colors, you can layer them, allowing for various expressions ♡
The finished product varies depending on the painting method and firing temperature, making it a high-level technique, but it results in one-of-a-kind pottery.
How to Use Luster?
To apply luster, you draw a pattern on the white porcelain, then mask that pattern and overlay it with a sponge.
Once the masking is removed and fired in a kiln, it’s complete.
There’s also a method where you fill a bucket with lukewarm water, drop a few drops of luster liquid into it, and immerse the masked white porcelain to color it overall.
"Luster Flower" Seems Especially Popular ♡
Among creations using the luster technique, one of the most popular is the works painted with colorful flowers.
On social media, these are referred to as "Luster Flower" ♡
A distinctive feature is that gold leaf is used to outline the petals on top of the luster.
The mood changes depending on the color and shape of the flowers, allowing you to create works that suit your preferences.
The soft, rainbow-colored, elegant cup and saucer are truly wonderful, aren’t they? ♡
