"The Vows of a Public Ceremony: Curious About What Others Have Said! [30 Examples Revealed]"
2022.06.29 published
I was told about the "vows" we presented at the ceremony!
In a "front-of-people" ceremony, which is neither Christian nor Buddhist, the vows are original. The bride and groom will decide the content of their "vows" themselves, but....
When it comes time to think about it, it can be hard to say, "All the weddings I've attended so far had the same old standard vows, so I’m curious about what everyone else is doing! I want to hear about it!"
Doesn't that sound troublesome?
In this article, we will introduce the "vows" read by 30 brides who responded to the marry survey at their "front-of-people" ceremony.*
Please use this as a reference when creating your original vows♩
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 1
(Groom) We would like to express our wedding vows in front of all of you, who have warmly watched over and nurtured us so far, and who are irreplaceable to us.
(Bride) Here are five promises that we intend to uphold in our future lives together.
(Groom) 1. To be sincere with each other, without lies or deception.
(Bride) 2. To always remember to care for each other.
(Groom) 3. To continue loving my wife, no matter what her weight becomes.
(Bride) 4. To continue loving my husband, no matter what his annual income becomes.
(Both) 5. To cherish this day and always prioritize feelings of gratitude, we declare here that we will be a couple who builds a happy family.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 2
I also had a "front-of-people" ceremony, just like the poster.
It felt different to swear to God or Buddha, and having all the guests witness made the front-of-people style perfect for us!
We made a wedding tree during the reception, showcased it during the ceremony, and finally completed it by having us put our thumbprints on it. Here are the vows we read:
We take the guests present today as witnesses and exchange our wedding vows here.
We will cherish each other's parents.
Even when busy, we will make time for each other.
We will always carry feelings of gratitude and compassion.
We will make bento properly.
We will actively perform household chores and be proud husbands.
We will cherish anniversaries.
We will never forget this day.
From now on, as a married couple,
And as comrades,
Always supporting each other,
Even if we argue,
We vow to always be by each other's side.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 3
We wrote letters of vows to each other.
Each of us had 3 to 4 pages, so I can't send the full text, but we each swore to accompany each other in our own words.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 4
I read messages addressed to each guest (things I've learned or admire about them) and made my vows to cherish those as a couple.
It was a bit long, but I was glad to convey my feelings for the guests properly💓
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 5
I thought of three promises each, and we said them aloud.
(Both)
To everyone present today, we here make our wedding vows.
(Him)
- I will reduce my time spent reading at convenience stores and cherish the time with [Bride's Name].
- I will not pour a lot of seasoning on the dishes [Bride's Name] makes for me.
- I will create a joyful home filled with smiles.
(Her)
- I will strive every day to make delicious meals.
- I will take care of my skin daily so as not to bore [Groom's Name], and I will never forget to keep up my fashion sense.
- I will not run out of the house in silence when we argue but will clarify my whereabouts.
(Both)
From now on, we vow to cherish each other with compassion.
We said serious things, but also made sure to get laughs, so it was good😉😉
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 6
- I will cherish each other’s family and siblings.
- I will not forget each other's birthdays or anniversaries.
- We will not carry over arguments to the next day.
- We will cooperate in doing household chores.
We read something like this!
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 7
Since we made original vows in our front-of-people ceremony, I hope it can serve as a reference (^^)
▽ Groom
Spending time with [Bride's Name] has taught me the happiness of finding joy in everything and sharing both happiness and sadness openly.
▽ Bride
I was attracted to [Groom's Name]’s kindness in caring for the people around him.
No matter what happens, as long as [Groom's Name] is watching over me with a smile, I can stay positive and be myself.
▽ Groom and Bride together
From now on, as a married couple,
we vow never to forget to cherish each other’s feelings and
to build a home filled with laughter and love.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 8
I truly discussed the things we want to cherish together and turned them into our vows☺️❤️
One: We will sometimes cook together.
Two: We will listen carefully until the end of each other's stories.
Three: We will express our thoughts in words.
Four: We will act on what we say.
Five: We will put effort into continuing to love each other.
We vow to walk together while complementing each other.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 9
We also had a front-of-people ceremony!
Since our guests were only family and friends, we kept the content casual, which made the guests laugh and enjoy it on the day♡
<Vows>
Today, we are grateful to be able to hold our wedding ceremony surrounded by everyone here.
We wish to establish our wedding vows before all of you, who are so precious to us.
- We will cherish our time together and celebrate birthdays and anniversaries together.
- I will help manage [Groom's Name]'s alcohol intake so that we both remain healthy.
- I will do my best to avoid getting too drunk during fun times.
- For even the little things, I will express gratitude and convey my feelings in words.
- We will cherish and value each other's families.
With these vows, we promise to combine our strengths and walk through the long journey of life together.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 10
We made our vows with the contents of, "We will cherish each other’s families," "We will not overindulge in alcohol," and "We will continue to travel to various places and share joy together"🌸
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 11
I want the vows to feel like what you see in overseas dramas, "expressing feelings for each other while weaving vows in my own words" ❤︎
I really prefer to not use a script, but since I doubt I could say it without help, we decided to write on small message cards available at places like Plaza, and keep it a secret until the day of the ceremony ❤︎
I plan to say that I vow to never forget that my husband is a kind and warm person and that I will not let go of his hand🥰🥰
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 12
I had a front-of-people ceremony as well.
(Groom)
Groom [Name] will
One: Moderate smoking.
Two: Put his clothes in the washing machine when he takes them off.
Three: Correct his moody tendencies.
(Bride)
Bride [Name]
One: Will prepare delicious meals.
Two: Will refrain from unnecessary spending.
Three: Will correct her tearful tendencies.
(Groom, Bride)
We vow to put our strengths together during tough times and build a home filled with smiles.
Something like that! It wasn't the stiff and nervous atmosphere of a typical ceremony, but rather a warm, heartfelt atmosphere where everyone chuckled.
While a formal ceremony is appealing, I still feel glad we chose a front-of-people ceremony in a way that reflects us.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 13
We are here today in front of you all
We vow to care for and respect each other from now on and to live together for life.
That's what we wrote!
I made sure not to use "I vow" or similar phrases within the text!!
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 14
Today, we declare in front of everyone present that we have become a married couple.
From today, we will cherish compassion in our hearts
And continuing to trust each other
To aim for a bright home filled with smiles and kindness,
We will continue to put in daily effort from here on out.
I didn’t want to use words like "I also vow," so I wrote it like the above.
I hope it helps 😊
To the brides-to-be: I know the preparations can be tough, but please hang in there because it's going to be a wonderful day 😊
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 15
I started with a regular vow, "We will cherish each other’s families." Then, I included phrases like, "I will not overindulge in alcohol," and "I will strive to maintain my figure."
The attendees laughed, creating a very relaxing atmosphere!
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 16
I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but I took letters from our names and made them into relatable vows! Haha
For example, if it's "Naomi":
"N" - We will reconcile as quickly as possible.
"O" - We will celebrate together during happy occasions.
"M" - We will make meals that make everyone happy!
Something like that!
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 17
We also had a front-of-people ceremony.
Since we were embarrassed to say our vows ourselves, we did it in a way where the host called out for us.
① Groom, do you vow to diet for health?
② Bride, do you vow to make delicious meals and lunchboxes every day?
③ Do you both vow to make each other laugh at least once a day?
④ Do you vow to love each other for life, remembering feelings of gratitude and compassion?
For ① and ②, we swore separately, while ③ and ④ we swore together.
At the groom's request, we did not want to use negative words, so we created these vows together.
We aimed for vows that can bring a smile and reflect who we are.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 18
I felt similarly, so I created original text for my front-of-people ceremony. The full text is as follows.
Thank you for being here to witness our new beginning today.
We truly appreciate reaching this day
thanks to all of you who have supported us until now.
Without forgetting our gratitude to you all,
And,
we vow to care for each other, no matter what,
and to cherish the time we spend together.

However… due to a lack of coordination between the planner and the host, the comments made by the officiant felt quite out of place.
This was because while we practiced for the ceremony, we mainly focused on confirming our movements, so we did not know what the officiant would say until the actual event.
As a result, the officiant most likely shared content as usual without understanding the nature of front-of-people ceremonies, such as explaining that the approval would come through guests' applause.
Additionally, they shared dramatic messages about love and ideal expectations for the couple, which differed from our image... resulting in some awkward moments that made it hard to hold back laughter.
While it may depend on the officiant's character, I recommend discussing the details with the officiant ahead of time if you plan to create original vows that include such intentions.
Some guests, who know me well, asked if that officiant was intentionally making jokes!
I decided to think of it as an amusing ceremony, and while I wasn't angry with the venue, it did end up being different from what I initially hoped for.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 19
At a friend's ceremony I attended, among various “vows,” the promise to “hug once a day🥰” brought everyone warmth and joy❤
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 20
Here are our vows!
<Vows>
Today, as we are surrounded by all of you, we express our gratitude for being able to hold this wedding ceremony, and we declare our marital vows here.

[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 21
We vow in front of everyone present.
I, Junji, fell in love with Mayu, who is always smiling and by my side. From now on, I vow to protect Mayu and build a happy family together.
I, Mayu, fell in love with Junji, who is always kind and puts me first. From now on, I vow to support Junji and to create a family filled with smiles together.
We vow to cherish our families, support each other in sad times, and share laughter in joyous times to build a warm home.
That's what we wrote🌟
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 22
I also thought of original vows for my front-of-people ceremony!
↓
Today, we make our vows as a couple in front of everyone present.
I (the groom) promise [Bride's Name] three things:
- To make up by the end of the day when we argue.
- To strive to understand [Bride's Name]'s feelings at all times.
- To continue being a handsome husband who cares for my appearance.
I (the bride) promise [Groom's Name] three things:
- Even when I want attention, I will value [Groom's Name]'s game and naptime.
- To maintain a clean home without leaving things lying around.
- To continue being a fun and cheerful wife, ensuring our home is always filled with smiles.
We vow to uphold these promises, nurturing mutual compassion,
and build a bright home together.

By touching upon our personalities and hobbies, I think we created vows that truly reflect who we are✨
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 23
Last year, I had a front-of-people ceremony.
Our vows were a mix of sample text and original content, so the latter half was more like a declaration of intent, haha
1. We will cherish each other's families.
2. We will not forget to care for each other's feelings.
3. We will create a home filled with smiles.
4. On our wedding anniversary of October 10, we will eat barbecue every year in honor of "Juujiyuu" (Barbecue Day).
5. We will make up within three days after fights.
That's what we wrote.
The original vows can only be made at a front-of-people ceremony, so it was wonderful!
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 24
(Both)
We officially registered our marriage on October 26, 2018, and today in front of everyone, we vow to strengthen our bond with the following promises.
(Groom)
Even when busy, I will cook delicious meals every day.
I will express my affection openly.
I will protect [Bride's Name]'s smile for a lifetime.
(Bride)
I will stay bright and smile every day.
Even if we both become plump like daruma dolls, I will continue to love [Groom's Name].
I will not forget to express gratitude and compassion.
(Both)
With these vows carved in our hearts, we promise to continue building a bright home filled with smiles.

Although it is still not confirmed, this is the kind of content we plan to use. We each thought of three promises to make to one another!
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 25
We created vows centered around the philosophy of living our lives with compassion for each other and valuing our families!
Here is the full text✨
One: We will cherish each other's families.
Two: We will properly convey feelings of gratitude in words.
Three: We will hold compassion in our hearts and support one another.
Four: No matter how much we argue, we will settle things by the end of the day.
Five: We will travel at least once a year to create memories together.
With the vows in our hearts, we pledge to walk forward together,
**
This is what we wrote!
We created content that is not stiff, using our authentic words, which I find quite nice.
Since we made promises that we could realistically uphold, I feel we can carry those thoughts in our hearts even now ☺️
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 26
We also created our vows ourselves!
Here’s what it looked like 🤗
(To the groom)
Do you vow to take the family on trips three times a year?
(To the bride)
Do you vow to outlive me?
(To the daughter)
Do you vow to give mommy and daddy a hug every day?
(To the host)
Do you vow to prioritize your own style without being bound by common norms or rules, and to cherish each other forever?
Do you vow to create a fun household where you love each other endlessly?
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 27
We take all guests present as witnesses to make our wedding vows.
1. We will be mindful of excessive drinking and eating and be conscious of our health.
We will aim to exercise and be cautious about our bellies and backsides.
2. We will take each other to Disneyland every year.
We will celebrate birthdays and important anniversaries without fail.
3. We will value listening and empathy in our conversations.
No matter how we argue, we will make up by the next day.
4. Even if my wife becomes a strict wife, I will hold my patience without giving up.
Even if my husband comes home drunk, I will warmly welcome him without locking the door.
5. We will cherish each other's families and create a home filled with smiles.
We vow to walk through life together, thinking "we were happy" even as age leaves its marks.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 28
We had three close guests recite vows instead of us during our front-of-people ceremony.
The first guest was a friend of the groom.
"Do you vow to create a wonderful home filled with smiles? Oh! Since we get along really well, can we still go to the hot springs from time to time to share our troubles after getting married?"
Next came a friend of the bride.
"Do you vow to continue discovering and praising [Bride's Name]'s good and cute points? Do you vow to join in the search for [Bride's Name]'s favorite food, delicious ice cream?
And finally, the groom's sister and her husband.
"Groom [Name], do you vow to pay attention to your health, quit smoking, and not indulge excessively in tinkering with your car, choosing to hold hands instead?
Bride [Name], do you vow to manage the groom's selfishness, prepare delicious meals, and together create a happy home?"
Each guest read their promises aloud, and we combined the three into a certificate that attests to our vows.
It also became an opportunity for our dear friends to learn about our genuine selves, intertwining heartwarming moments, tears, and laughter during the ceremony.
It was great to have everyone participate by listening while laughing, rather than just reading it ourselves (^-^) I’m so grateful for those who came up with unique vows!
This reminds me to cherish my partner, even when we argue!
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 29
Regarding the vows, we made four promises.
To the bride:
Do you vow to always say “have a good day” and “welcome back,” even on busy mornings when you leave early or return late?
To the groom:
Do you vow to notice small changes in the bride to keep her smiling brightly and to give her compliments, even if it feels awkward?
For both:
Do you vow to make up by the end of the same day after arguing?
For both:
Do you vow to remain appreciative, always saying “thank you” and “I’m sorry,” even when you become as natural as air to one another?
We asked the host to read these four vows aloud, and we declared our promises in front of everyone.
They are things that are obvious but important to us, that we created together.
[Front-of-People Ceremony] Original Vows 30
<Vows>
We, the two of us
are happy to hold our wedding ceremony
in front of all of you who always watch over us kindly.
From now on, we vow to respect each other and help each other
building a home where we feel happy in the little moments,
reflecting our true selves.
The groom is Korean, and family members from Korea came as well, so we read this in both Japanese and Korean 🌷
Swearing Love in Our Own Words♡
I presented the full texts of the "vows" that were read or are planned to be read at the wedding by 30 people.*
For those who find phrases such as "I swear to God" or "I vow my everlasting love" to be too conventional, these original vows are perfect for couples who want to express their individuality.
It seems like it would be fun to take the time to discuss what the content will be.
Let’s create beautiful vows together♡
