The "History of Hiyoko" section on the official website was interesting ♡
The Hiyoko website has a story from when Hiyoko was born in 1912 until now, and it was fun to read.
Hiyoko was born in Iizuka, Chikuhou, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Iizuka, Chikuhou prospered as a mining town.
For the workers digging for coal, sweet treats were necessary to charge their energy, and it was a town that was active in confectionery making.
However, at that time, sweets were mostly flat or round shapes, and the shopkeeper at the time was searching for a new type of confectionery, thinking "That’s boring!"
Inspired by the cuteness of a chick that came to him in a dream, he exclaimed "This is it!" and the chick-shaped steamed bun "Hiyoko" was born.
(The three-dimensional and cute appearance of the steamed bun was incredibly sensational at the time.)
By the way, the name of the confection is not "Hiyoko," but "Hiyoko," because the shopkeeper wanted to "treat this confection like my dear child."
There are many interesting stories, such as the design of the Hiyoko logo, that made me think "Wow! I didn’t know that!" so be sure to check the official website ♩
