"Commemorating Our Union: A Visit to Our Memory Shrine Before Registration with a Stamp on Our Marriage Certificate"
2021.02.22 published
I want to collect Goshuin.
Goshuin, which can be obtained at shrines and temples as proof of your visit.
The beautiful calligraphy and design of the red ink stamp varies from shrine to temple, and enjoying the changing seasons while visiting various places is one of the delights of collecting Goshuin.
Originally, Goshuin was given as a "proof of having made a pilgrimage to that place," representing individual faith. Nowadays, you can receive it just by donating a fee ranging from 300 yen to 1000 yen, even if you don’t sketch.
When you request a Goshuin, the stamp (red ink) along with the name of the shrine or temple and the date will be noted in your Goshuin book. But did you know that "you can also receive a Goshuin on other papers, not just in the Goshuin book"???
It's amazing to get a Goshuin on your marriage certificate.
It's generally considered disrespectful to receive a Goshuin on anything other than a Goshuin book.
(Since Goshuin is something held in high regard.)
Thus, it's considered taboo to receive a Goshuin on anything other than a Goshuin book, such as a notebook or memo pad, and there are actual cases where requests are denied even if you say "Please put it here."
However, in the case of a marriage certificate, it seems that it can be treated as a "special item" for receiving a Goshuin!!!
Couples are said to visit a nearby shrine or a memorable temple before registering their marriage, get a Goshuin stamped on their completed marriage certificate, and then submit it to the city hall with a solemn feeling...
Isn't this really wonderful???♡
"May we find happiness as a couple from now on."
"May we live a rich new life together."
Just wishing for this on the day of registration is lovely, and on top of that, getting a Goshuin on the marriage certificate.
It feels like being recognized as "I’ve certainly made that visit," giving a sense of being watched over for a happy married life.
Having the marriage certificate copy stamped for home storage and decorating it in a frame... that’s also wonderful.
It seems that many people have opted for simple designs of the marriage certificate or ones with red designs to match receiving a Goshuin.
A marriage certificate with a Goshuin looks so much more elegant and cool.
Visiting for New Year's, safe childbirth prayers, and Shinto rituals for children make it a joy to tell children and grandchildren, "Mom and Dad came to this place to pray when they got married."
There is also a "Marriage Pilgrimage Certificate" created by the Marriage Certificate Production Office.*
The Marriage Certificate Production Office, well-known for creating original designs for marriage certificates, also sells a commemorative marriage certificate dedicated to receiving a Goshuin, which comes as a set with the marriage certificate and the "Marriage Pilgrimage Certificate."♡

(Such as the Hikawa Shrine in Saitama, Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine, Togo Shrine, etc.)
