"Lending Out Phone Chargers: A Thoughtful Gesture to Tackle the Urgent Concern of Low Battery Life!"
2020.02.03 published
Common Issues with Smartphone Charging...
For modern individuals, charging their smartphones is incredibly important. Especially when out and about, it can be stressful when your battery drops below 20% or 30%.
You start thinking, "I should try not to use it too much," or "I should save some battery for the way back!"...!!
Many people experience similar smartphone charging troubles at weddings as well.*
Guests travel to the venue by train or bus from the morning (often using their smartphones during the journey), take numerous photos and videos of the bride and groom during the ceremony and reception, and then attend the after-party... so it's no surprise that their batteries drain quickly.
Of course, the rate at which batteries drain differs from person to person, but not everyone uses a new smartphone with great battery life, and if someone has a phone that's a year or two old, they might find it malfunctioning or dying quickly... right?
Moreover, it can be inconvenient that even if you want to bring a spare battery and cable, they might not fit in that small handbag meant for weddings...
Batteries can be somewhat heavy and bulky, turning into extra baggage. It would be reassuring to have one, but it can also feel a bit troublesome to carry... ><
Providing a Charger Could Be the Best Hospitality*
I want guests to enjoy the wedding without worrying about smartphone charging-related stress...!!
For brides thinking this way, having chargers available at the venue might be the best form of hospitality for their guests.*
Just like finding a cafe or shop with an outlet is a "stroke of luck," guests will likely feel thrilled to find a charger at the wedding, thinking, "This is amazing" and "How thoughtful!"
But there are many considerations to take into account.
While having a smartphone charger available would be super convenient... the reason it isn't widespread is that there are many issues that need to be addressed and considered.
- Will we be allowed to borrow an outlet for an extension cord?
- Is there a location issue?
- What if a charger gets lost, breaks, or is mixed up?
- If using chargers that don't require an outlet, how many should we prepare?
- Should we leave batteries that's low on charge after someone has used them?
- Where should we place them? (To charge effectively, they need to be available at the venue.)
- How many iPhone and Android cables should we prepare?
These are just a few of the questions. Deciding what chargers to have, where to place them, and how to lend them out can definitely be tricky.
So, what are the possible methods?
Here are five potential methods for lending out chargers.
Since these are ideas that seem feasible, it’s important to check with your planner and venue after considering the aforementioned issues to see if they can actually be implemented.
1
Extend an extension cord from the outlet to the reception or waiting area for guests to charge their devices
2
Prepare charging batteries and place them in areas like the reception or waiting space
3
Instead of just leaving them out, create a lending system where guests can borrow chargers by asking staff
4
Place 2-3 charging batteries on the guest tables for guests to use
5
Use tabletop frames with mobile batteries as table numbers
Having a Charger Could Make Guests Happy...!♡
Offering smartphone chargers for guests is a common hospitality practice at parties abroad.*
Once it’s confirmed that guests can actually charge their phones, it’s advisable to have an announcement board (sign) like this one.
“CHARGING STATION HERE” or
“THE POWER OF LOVE”
When written alongside an English phrase, even a charging space that feels office-like can instantly become stylish♩
Among the guests, there may be many who think,
“My battery drains quickly”
or “I want to take lots of photos and videos, but I’m worried about the battery.”
A smartphone charger will likely be a greatly appreciated and welcomed form of hospitality**
