The hair and makeup rehearsal held about a month before the big day is the time to convey the image I've shared with the stylist and see it come to life.
It would be reassuring if they could get the ideal hairstyle right on the first try...
However, many brides feel something like, “It’s just not quite right...”
But if I can’t articulate exactly what feels off in that moment, I might become anxious thinking:
In this article, I will introduce three common reasons why there is often a gap between the ideal and the reality, along with real-life hair and makeup rehearsal photos from previous brides.
When you feel “something is different!” be sure to mentally prepare how to convey exactly what is off.
Reason #1 for a Less-than-Ideal Hairstyle: The Way It's Loosened is Different
The first reason is that the “loosening method” is not communicated effectively.
How the braided updo is loosened is a crucial point that determines the bride's impression.
Be cautious of scenarios where the loosening is insufficient and the result differs from the image!
In the ideal (left), a soft and large bun is created by loosening it richly at a high position, providing volume, but in the rehearsal (right), the stylist tries to replicate volume solely with the size of the bun without loosening the hair, resulting in a heavier impression.
Even though my ideal is a fairy-like and delicate vibe, it surprisingly turns out more glamorous...
Because the chignon is a standard hairstyle, it may be necessary to articulate the silhouette and volume you envision clearly.
Reason #3 for a Less-than-Ideal Hairstyle: The Way the Curls Are Done is Different
A common issue with down styles is the difference in how the curls are styled.
Curls can create various expressions depending on the thickness of the curling iron, whether they are inward or outward curls, and where you start curling, making it easy to end up with a gap from the ideal.
The ideal (right) features large curls with a mix of curling styles, while the rehearsal (left) ends up with finer vertical curls.
It gives a luxurious impression, slightly deviating from the girly vibe I’m aiming for.
Additionally, the twist on the half-up style is somewhat different from my ideal.
It’s best to clearly convey what specific aspects of the reference images you like for an ideal arrangement.
I Hope Every Bride Can Approach Their Wedding with a Gorgeous Hairstyle!
Of course, since hair types and lengths vary, it’s impossible to achieve an exact match to the prepared reference images.
(It’s rare to get the exact hairstyle shown in a catalog at the regular hair salon, right?)
However, to ensure that the nuances important to me are conveyed as clearly as possible, consider keeping the three reasons I introduced in mind as you approach your hair and makeup rehearsal.
I hope you can capture all the key points during the hair and makeup rehearsal, leading to a satisfying hairstyle on the big day! ♡
