"Creating Shimmering Plastic Board Place Cards That Sparkle Like Snowflakes Using Aluminum Foil"
2020.01.17 published
Handmade "Plastic Board Place Cards" *
A familiar plastic board since childhood.
Many people may have played with making toy keychains in the past, but now plastic boards are commonly used to create cute handmade accessories and small items *
Recently, they are also used as place cards for weddings ♡
Place cards made from plastic boards are easy to DIY, and they look simple and stylish, which is a plus ♡
Since plastic boards shrink when heated, any distortion or smudges in hand-drawn letters don’t stand out as much, and because they are transparent or semi-transparent, you can easily trace names by placing a sample underneath ♩
Great Idea! Sparkly Plastic Board Place Cards are Cute *
While making these plastic board place cards, I discovered some wonderful ideas that I want to try *
Here they are ♡
Can you see the left half of the surface of the plastic board is sparkling (a little bumpy)?
(It looks so cute, like the surface of the ocean, snowflakes, or chunks of ice! ♡)
This slightly uneven sparkling surface can be achieved with just aluminum foil ♡
I will introduce the detailed method shared by @_yurie07_wedding *

【Materials Used】
Plastic board (from a 100 yen shop), black marker, hole punch
Ball chain, cooking sheet, aluminum foil
Something to press down like a book or magazine
【Instructions】
① Cut the plastic board into your desired shape (make it larger since it shrinks when heated)
② Write the name on the plastic board with a marker (it's okay if it's a bit uneven)
③ Punch a hole in the plastic board (I used a hole punch with a 10mm diameter; a regular hole punch may not fit the ball chain after heating.)
④ Crumple the aluminum foil and then lightly spread it out (if you spread it too nicely, it may not give a bumpy texture, so keep it light)
⑤ Bake the plastic board in a toaster (about 1 minute at 1000W?)
⑥ Quickly use a spatula to transfer the baked plastic board onto the cooking sheet (using chopsticks or tongs may leave marks)
⑦ Immediately place the aluminum foil on top of the extracted plastic board, carefully stacking the cooking sheet to prevent slipping, and press it between books or magazines to shape it straight.
Once it has cooled and solidified, it’s complete! ♡
【Notes】
- It's probably a good idea to take it out just before it fully finishes shrinking (estimated 3 seconds before) to avoid marks.
- It cools quickly and marks can become permanent, so quickly stack the aluminum foil and cooking sheet, and press it in a book within about 5 seconds!
Be careful not to over-bake/overcool/burn, and enjoy the variation in the finished product🦋
