Chatelles was born in Paris in 2012. The brand was created by a man named François de Chastel, who was originally an ordinary office worker at a bank in London.

Chastel was inspired to start making shoes when he wanted to give his girlfriend, whom he was dating at the time, "a special pair of shoes" and decided to custom-order them from a shoemaker he met in London＊ (Unfortunately, Chastel and the girlfriend to whom he gifted the shoes broke up…!)
