Ideas for Engraving on the Inside of Wedding Rings: Beyond Dates and Initials
2023.06.05 published
I'm struggling with what to engrave on my wedding ring.
A survey request sent to marry.

I'm having a hard time deciding on a message to engrave on the inside of my wedding ring. I'm thinking of something other than a date or initials, but what suggestions do you have??
If you've engraved something other than a date or initials, I would love to hear what message you chose!

It's true. Engraving on bridal rings can be quite a dilemma since it’s such an important item.
Classic options are nice, but unique ones are great too...!!!
What kind of engravings are others getting? I asked around ♡
【Response 1】
For my engagement ring, I engraved the date of our registration and our initials, and for my wedding ring, I engraved "happiness."
The store where I bought the rings had example phrases, and I considered the number of characters when making my selection ✨
【Response 2】
I engraved "Husband's name🌸 My name 2020"! Since our registration was in April 2020, I chose cherry blossoms 😊
My name comes first on my husband's ring. I decided not to include a message because it felt embarrassing 😂
【Response 3】
I engraved "Eternity with you"!
The shop staff gave me a paper with about 30 suggestions and we both pointed to the same one at the same time (laughs).
【Response 4】
We also paid a lot of attention to our ring's engraving ♡
I might not be of much help as I chose a date, but...
His ring has 2020.○.○ (date),
My ring has R2.○.○ (R for the Reiwa era).
I had the 2 of 2020 and R written in a flowing style so that when aligned, they form a heart shape! (...I hope that makes sense)
Also, since I received roses both when he confessed and when he proposed, I engraved a rose too!!
I hope you create a wonderful ring ♡♡
【Response 5】
"T to M".
The messages we could engrave were almost predetermined at the store!
【Response 6】
I engraved the geocode of the address where we registered!
I made Disney Land my registered address, and the engraving is the geocode of the place where I was proposed to, Cinderella Castle: "35.6318264,139.8798748"!
【Response 7】
amore♡ + each other's initials!
【Response 8】
I ordered from a place that allows handwritten engravings, so I engraved an illustration of a memory from our time together.
I illustrated a manta ray that we saw at the aquarium on our first date and placed it between our names.
【Response 9】
I work in the ring-making industry.
I've seen customers get laser engravings of their portraits, favorite things (like beer or baseball), or even each other's fingerprints, and all of them turned out super cute, so I recommend it!!
【Response 10】
I expressed our names as numbers like 526373!
It reads "Kojiro & Minami"!
I also included our anniversary, "2019.08.08∞526&373," making it filled with numbers lol.
【Response 11】
We both engraved "a lot of smile."
【Response 12】
Since we have children, I added a heart after our initials and included the initials of our children too 💍❤︎
【Response 13】
It's not an engraving for a wedding ring but for an engagement ring, and I engraved "WHEREVER YOU ARE" 😳
【Response 14】
I found a wedding ring brand that uses a Japanese motif for our Shinto ceremony and went with it.
My name is engraved in kanji on the inside, and next to my name, I added my family crest.
(Wife's name)(Wife's family crest)(Husband's family crest)(Husband's name) ← like this.
I love my family, so even though I’m getting married, I wanted some connection, so I included the family crest. I’m very satisfied with the outcome, which exceeded my expectations.
We also exchanged and engraved each other’s birthstones.
【Response 15】
Today! I engraved the location and date of my proposal on my engagement ring, and for my wedding ring, I included my favorite foods to make it unique and cute!
My engagement ring has "YRN10・2" engraved.
I received the proposal on October 2nd on Yoronjima in the Amami Islands, Kagoshima.
My wedding rings are "ladies ⭐︎CHEESE⭐︎" and "men's ⭐︎WAGYU⭐︎."
We plan to serve dishes made with cheese and wagyu at our wedding!
【Response 16】
Along with the date and initials, I had the Tokyo Skytree, where we had our first date and our proposal, engraved✨
I sketched the Skytree myself.
【Response 17】
I had my name engraved in roman letters!
Instead of "&," I used "to," which means from me to you! 😌
A friend of mine drew a picture of themselves for their engraving!
【Response 18】
I embedded the date using paw prints.
It looks like 🐾5.○🐾.
My size was too small, so I couldn’t fit my name in as well 😅
【Response 19】
I think it’s nice to have a phrase just for the two of you, something you think of when you look at it, especially in tough times when you might need a reminder that you still love each other.♡
【Response 20】
We engraved words that we want to cherish in our future life together 💍✨
【Response 21】
We engraved "Happy Lirac."
Lilac petals usually have four, but sometimes you might find one with five (similar to a four-leaf clover).
In Western culture, the five-petaled lilac is called a "happy lilac," and it’s said that if you find one and keep it a secret, you will have eternal happiness with your loved one.
I like the idea of having the happy lilac engraved inside the ring where no one can see it...
Also, our beloved dog is named Lilac 🥰, which is a rare and impressive word. I recommend this to anyone making a ring 💕
【Response 22】
My husband let me choose what to engrave on our rings, so we went with "End of the World" 💜
I love SEKAI NO OWARI, and I initially suggested "Let's go with SEKAI NO OWARI!" but he said that was too much... 😂 I used the expression we'd use when they perform overseas 🌏
Some might say "the end of the world" isn’t very auspicious, but it signifies that I want to be with him at every moment, whether at the moment the world ends or when it begins anew 🌙*゚
When I got proposed, I told my husband that marriage is not the finish line but a start, and we must overcome both good and bad things from here on out, so I want to remember that 💍✨
By including this phrase, my wedding ring feels even more special and is truly my favorite 💜💜💜
【Response 23】
This is a bit of a different topic, but since I could only engrave my ring size + 7 characters, and I am a size 6, I could only manage 13 characters.
"A to B 2020.01.01" was character limit overload for initials and dates, and replacing initials with names also exceeded the limit, so I ended up with only initials.
It seems it varies by store, so you might need to check your own size to see how many characters you can fit...
【Response 24】
I went with my registration date + my initials in lowercase letters 😊✨
【Response 25】
We bought our rings from Cartier, and when we saw that they offered hiragana font, we were like, "Awesome!" 😹
I engraved 〇〇〇&〇〇〇 2020.7.3
*〇〇〇 are my names in hiragana.
Even though English sounds cooler, it was really just the vibe of the moment for both of us 😹
When we opened it together, we joked, "This is so lame 😹 It’s like elementary school stuff 😹 But I actually love this silly part!," and that moment is a fond memory for us 🤣
【Response 26】
My ring size is small, and because I embedded my birthstone, I could only engrave 5 characters…
(I am size 4.5 and my husband is size 13, which affected our character limits.)
Even slashes or dots counted as one character, so we had to think quickly on the spot, which made it challenging 💦
Ultimately, I combined our initials and the date to create a kind of code known only to the two of us. If you can include a message, I thought using laser engraving for handwritten text looked lovely!♡
【Response 27】
I included the wedding concept created by the planner 💗
The phrase "only to day."
It means, "Let’s express our feelings just for today, this one day❤︎"!
I hope every day becomes a special "today."
【Response 28】
I engraved a word from both of us! I believe it was in French!
tous les deux – always together
Avec toi – with you
That's it ☺︎
Original messages are wonderful too*
Engravings on rings come in various words and messages, and I found it interesting that many couples ended up drawing their own illustrations!
Depending on the brand, some may not allow symbols, while others might allow hiragana or drawings, so if you have specific requirements, it seems best to check those details when choosing your ring ♡
