A Life with Doudan Tsutsuji is Popular ♡
During this period from spring to early summer, when fresh greenery begins to sprout, stylish people seem to elegantly and boldly decorate their homes with branches.*
Potted houseplants are nice, but greens arranged in a large glass vase have a refreshing and transparent feel, making them even more stylish ♡
Among branches, "Doudan Tsutsuji" is very popular. In fact, there are nearly 800 posts on Instagram with the hashtag "#A Life with Doudan Tsutsuji".
Did you know that Doudan Tsutsuji is such a popular plant...?
<Doudan Tsutsuji's Season>
Doudan Tsutsuji will bloom small white flowers that look like lily of the valley along with the young leaves around April.
In summer, it has lush green leaves, and in autumn, it is a deciduous hardwood that turns beautiful colors.
It typically grows to about 2m to 3m. Its branches spread widely both vertically and horizontally, so you often see Doudan Tsutsuji trimmed into round shapes in urban areas.
Doudan Tsutsuji branches are available from May to August. After the flowers bloom, they are sold as cut branches about 1m long with only leaves.
<How Long Can You Enjoy Doudan Tsutsuji?>
Doudan Tsutsuji can last about 2 weeks to 1.5 months after purchase.*
If too much water is added, the area of the branch touching the water increases, making it easy for the water to get dirty, so it's better to use less water to enjoy it longer.
However, if there’s too little water, it might fall over easily, so it’s a good idea to choose a somewhat heavy vase.
The ideal vase size is about 1/3 to 1/5 of the total height of the Doudan Tsutsuji (if it’s 1m, around 20cm works well) for balanced decoration.*
As the leaves start to wilt, hand-pick and remove them. Since it has high vitality, new shoots may sprout from where you’ve cut the branches.*
When the number of leaves decreases, you can cut and separate the branches to enjoy them longer ♡
<How Much Does Doudan Tsutsuji Cost?>
Doudan Tsutsuji can be found in flower shops for around 500 to 3,000 yen.
Smaller ones about 50cm to 1m are priced around 500 yen, while those that are about 1m with many branches cost about 1,500 yen. Some people have even bought large branches that make you wonder if it’s the whole tree for around 3,000 yen.*
You can also purchase it online, with Rakuten selling 5 pieces of 80-100cm Doudan Tsutsuji for 2,310 yen.*
