A Performance Where Guests Read Letters Together♡
There are various ways to present letters from the couple to guests at weddings, such as messages on the back of place cards or wall letters...
The timing of when to "read" the letters varies for each person.
In many cases, guests may read them right after receiving them (place card messages can be read in the order they are seated; wall letters in the order guests check in), or some guests may say, "I might cry if I read it now, so I'll read it at home!"
While it’s of course great to let guests read them at their own pace,
don’t you think it’s lovely to set aside a time for everyone to read together?
This is known as the "Letter Ceremony" or "Letter Reading Ceremony," and it seems to be gaining popularity as one of the wedding performances.
A Memorable Time for Letters*
Having guests read letters filled with the couple's feelings all at once allows for control over the BGM and atmosphere, making it a memorable time for the guests.
All guests can concentrate on the messages in silence, leading to moments of tears or smiles... Just imagining it brings happiness, doesn’t it?
If the letter ceremony is held during the banquet time when the couple is present, seeing the reactions of the guests who read the letters is another delightful point♡
How to Distribute the Letters?
When conducting a letter ceremony, you need to distribute the letters in advance.
☑ Hand them out at the reception
☑ Place them at the guest tables
☑ Display them in the welcome space as wall letters
Ensure they are in hand before the moment of reading.
You can heighten the excitement by having guests think, "I received a letter, but when will I read it? I can’t wait to see what it says!"♡
There are brides who had staff distribute the letters just before the letter ceremony!*
If using staff for distribution, be sure to check with your planner beforehand and have them organized by guest table♩
*Important Note Regarding Envelopes*
Don’t forget to write on the envelope, "Please do not open until instructed!"
It’s a good idea to announce it at the reception or indicate it where the letters are handed out, but there’s still a chance someone might miss it and open it early.
Therefore, it’s recommended to clearly write "Do not open until instructed" somewhere visible on the envelope!
Be sure to seal the letters properly with a sealing stamp or seal to prevent the letter paper from falling out♩
When Should They Read It?
The letter ceremony can take place at various times:
☑ Before the ceremony
☑ Before entering the reception
☑ During the reception
☑ Before the bride's letter
☑ After the couple exits
It’s recommended to stage it at these times*
Have the MC announce, “Now we have a message from the couple. Please take a look at the letter you received at the reception.”
Choosing BGM similar to what would be used for the bride's letter, or a music box arrangement is recommended.
Personally, I think it’s a classic, but Blue's "The Gift" never fails to evoke emotions♡
