The Little Sweets at the End of French Meals ♡
Have you ever heard of "mignardises" in French?
Mignardises refer to the "sweets" that are served last in French cuisine. In French, it means "cuteness" or "elegance"*
The sweets served at the very end of a French meal are also called "petits fours," and both mignardises and petits fours refer to post-meal sweets.
☑ Hard cookies and baked sweets are referred to as "petits fours"
☑ Cream puffs and éclairs, among other fresh sweets, are distinguished as "mignardises"*
There is a rare shop in Omotesando that specializes in the little sweets served at the end of French meals, called mignardises ♡
Un Grain's Mignardises are Shockingly Cute ♡
The name of the specialty shop for mignardises is "UN GRAIN." They have a store in Aoyama ♡
Un Grain sells mignardises as "small and chic sweets to be enjoyed not only after meals but during precious moments with loved ones"*
Eating mignardises often comes after finishing a French course, when one is already full, leading to thoughts like, "It's delicious, but I feel like it's a waste to eat now! I want to eat it when I'm hungrier...!"
Un Grain offers the precious experience of enjoying mignardises on their own ♡ It’s a luxury to fill your stomach with bite-sized mignardises ♩
Un Grain's mignardises are truly bite-sized, about the size of a dessert spoon.
Simply scaling down a regular cake is a challenge, but they aim even higher by pursuing the "balance of deliciousness that can only be conveyed at this size" ♡
Each piece holds a carefully crafted essence inside it*
The Chef Patissier is the Eldest Son of a Long-Established Wagashi Shop!
The chef patissier at the mignardises specialty shop "Un Grain" is a man named Tomonari Kombu.
Kombu was born as the eldest son of "Kombuya Sōhei," a wagashi shop with a 230-year history in Fukui Prefecture. It’s shocking to think that the eldest son of a traditional wagashi shop is making French pastries...!
After acquiring the basics of French pastry, Kombu joined Pierre Hermé. In Paris, he was in charge of desserts at the two-star restaurant "L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon," before joining Un Grain and becoming the chef patissier in just four years*
From Pierre Hermé to Joël Robuchon, he has an enviable background that any patissier would admire ♡
Perfect for Gifts*
As of June 2020, the lineup of products at the mignardises specialty shop "Un Grain" includes 25 different types ♡ Each one looks delicious, making it hard to choose...!
Each cake costs between 400 to 500 yen. There is an eat-in space, so you can also enjoy them inside the shop,
and they are available for takeout too ♡
The takeout boxes come in sizes for six pieces and twelve pieces,
both designed to be see-through, which is a highlight. Receiving such adorable and small sweets as gifts will surely be a delightful surprise...! ♡
What I’ve introduced so far are fresh and semi-fresh mignardises, but there are also baked sweets available*
Baked goods are long-lasting, making them suitable for wedding favors and thank-you gifts at receptions ♩
