Guest Cards Over Guestbooks for COVID-19 Measures: Free Template and Content Guide

More People Might Choose Guest Books from Now On
For wedding receptions, there are two methods:
✅ Have guests write their names in a guest book (sign-in book)
✅ Send a guest card along with the invitation for them to fill out and bring
It seems that there has been a trend towards choosing guest books in the past, but due to COVID-19 countermeasures, more people seem to be opting for guest cards.
As there’s no need to stay at the reception for long periods or share pens, it certainly looks like guest cards will become mainstream for a while.
About Guest Cards
A guest card is a card used instead of a sign-in book.
Guests fill it out, which is included with the invitation, and then hand it to the reception staff on the wedding day.
✅ Since guests fill it out beforehand, the reception won’t be crowded
✅ Guests can write messages at home
✅ As a COVID-19 countermeasure, there’s no need to share pens
These are some advantages.
For guests who forget to bring their cards on the day, be sure to have a few extra prepared at the reception.
Items on the Guest Card
The items to include in the guest card would be like this:
Although they will be writing at home, if there are too many items, it may become burdensome, so it’s better to keep the items to a minimum.
------ Required Items ------
✅ Guest card instructions
✅ Name
----- Optional Items -----
✅ Phone number
✅ Address
✅ Birthday
✅ Email address
✅ Message
------------------------
◆ Example of guest card instructions
“This card will serve as a substitute for the guest book.
We appreciate your cooperation in filling it out and handing it to the reception on the day.”
“Please hand it to the reception upon arrival.”
Personally, I think the address doesn’t need to be included on the guest book since it will also be written on the reply postcard of the invitation (and we are sending the invitation anyway...), and I think phone numbers and email addresses are usually known, so perhaps it’s unnecessary for guests to write them on the guest book.
Generally available guest cards have items like “You should write your address and phone number in the sign-in book” due to outdated customs, but I find it a burdensome practice for guests with no real practicality!

The Option of “Guest Cards”
Traditionally, weddings have relied on guest books for guests to write their names and addresses, but during the current health crisis, integrating guest cards may provide guests with a bit more peace of mind.
Since addresses and phone numbers are not mandatory on guest cards, consider choosing a simple design that includes only the guest card instructions, name, and message ♩
