"Thoughts on Foreign Dramas: It's Cool How Men Abroad Gift Flowers Without Wrapping Them!"
2020.11.29 published
I'm envious of the culture of casually giving flowers!
Suddenly, I thought...
Don’t you think men overseas (especially in Europe!) look cool just giving flowers casually as gifts??
In Japan, "giving flowers as a gift" is typically reserved for special occasions.
It's customary to wrap them up properly and present them on important days like birthdays or anniversaries, but overseas, it seems like giving flowers is a regular thing ♡
For example, in the UK, there’s a culture called "Friday Flower," where people buy flowers after work on Fridays to decorate their homes and brighten the weekend spent with family.
In the romantic country of France, it seems that florists come to restaurants to sell flowers, and it’s not uncommon for a guy to buy flowers right there and give them to his girlfriend sitting in front of him… ♡
There are flower trucks all over the city, and people casually exchange flowers ♩
Flowers without wrapping*
It seems that when giving flowers casually overseas, they often hand them over without wrapping*
(This thought occurred to me while watching a foreign drama. In "Prison Break," there’s a scene where Teabag buys a sunflower for his ex-wife. I thought that was amazing... then I saw a stylish foreigner I follow on Instagram who received cut roses from her husband just as they were, and I began to wonder if this is common in foreign countries…)
Flowers aren’t typically bundled up like a bouquet; they can be casually given as just 1 to 10 stems of 1 or 2 types.
It has the vibe of being picked fresh from the florist.
Bundling long-stemmed flowers like roses looks cool, and having small flowers like chamomile or baby’s breath loosely arranged is also natural and cute*
Just buying a single rose and giving it as is… is also quite romantic ♡
(It has a bit of a "Bachelor" feel, though…!)
I want to be given flowers regularly ♡
A man holding flowers just looks cooler, doesn’t he?
While it’s nice to receive luxurious flowers from him on special occasions when he’s in a suit, being handed a flower casually in the middle of everyday life can make me fall in love all over again…! ♡
It also feels a bit burdensome to always receive flowers beautifully wrapped (plus it increases waste…!), and the fact that they can be placed directly in a vase is a great perk ♩
There are always beautiful flowers blooming in front of Marronnier Gate in Ginza,
and recently, Uniqlo Flowers have become quite popular, making it easier to casually and regularly buy flowers in Japan ♡
At first, I plan to go flower shopping with him, and if we decorate our home with flowers regularly, he might get inspired to buy some for me when he feels like it*
