Beyond Marunouchi! 12 Scenic Locations in Tokyo for Location Photos
2021.05.12 published
What are some pre-wedding photo spots besides Tokyo Station and Marunouchi?!
When it comes to location photography in Tokyo,
the most famous, popular, and standard spot is definitely Tokyo Station and Marunouchi.
✅ With the station building of Tokyo Station as a backdrop
✅ With the boutiques of Marunouchi Nakadori as a backdrop
✅ With the historic building, Meiji Seimeikan, as a backdrop
✅ At Wadakurafunsui Park
Besides the fact that you can take dramatic photos, another attraction is that "there are many photo spots in a small area."
➡️ On marry, this article explains, “This photo was taken in this location!” with a map attached♡
However, there are many wonderful places in Tokyo besides Marunouchi! ♡
In this article, I will introduce beautiful location photography spots outside of the Tokyo Station area that I, a Tokyo lover, recommend.
(I have excluded places in front of wedding venues!)
Anyone who can look at a photo and go, "Oh, this picture was taken from this angle on this street!" is amazing. ♡
We’ll surely hit it off, so let’s be friends*
And if you think, “There are more places than this~~!” please let me know! ♡
【1】 Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue
The ginkgo trees at Gaien-mae.
The area is bustling with people during the autumn leaves season, but even outside of that season, the high sky and wide road with large trees shaped like canopies are impressive.
Since it is also known as a sacred place for sports cars, if you are lucky, you might be able to take a photo with a cool Ferrari or Lamborghini in the background.
Photos sitting on a bench are also nice.
I always think, "It feels like the Champs-Élysées in Tokyo."
The ginkgo avenue at Gaien-mae is known for Shake Shack and KIHACHI.
Let’s make sure to include them in the shot♡ It might just look like a scenery at the time of shooting, but it could become a restaurant full of memories in the future*
【2】 Tokyo Tower (Shiba Park)
Tokyo Tower is so romantic, isn't it?
I love it! ♡
Photos where Tokyo Tower is prominently featured are often taken in Shiba Park.
Although Shiba Park is spacious, the popular photography spot is the "Shiba Park No. 4," which is a square.
It’s located at the corner of Shiba Park, and instead of Shiba Park Station, it’s closer to Onarimon Station. There is a straight road where you can see Tokyo Tower right in front of you.
【3】 Omotesando
Omotesando also offers beautiful streets that provide wonderful wedding photos.
Just like Marunouchi, even if you take photos against the backdrop of brand boutiques, everyone will surely recognize it right away and think, "Ah, this is Omotesando~♡"
Taking pictures from above a pedestrian bridge is nice too.
From mid-November, the illumination is beautiful! ♡
【4】 Shibuya
Many people must have seen couples taking pre-wedding photos at the scramble crossing in front of Shibuya Station.
Many people are also doing self-portrait shoots.
This is on the side closer to Shoto in Shibuya. It’s the road in front of TRUNK BY SHOTO GALLERY.
【5】 Akasaka Imperial Guest House
Probably because it’s close to Marunouchi, recently there has been an increase in brides taking wedding photos in front of the gates of the Akasaka Imperial Guest House.
It’s located right near Yotsuya Station.
Built in 1909, it is the only neo-Baroque palace architecture in Japan.
It is a building that represents the peak of Japan’s technology (in architecture, art, and craftsmanship) at that time, and many foreign dignitaries have visited.
It looks wonderful both during the day and at night, and since you can only take photos in front of the gate, there might not be a variety of photos, but any pose looks dramatic and like a scene from a fairy tale.
Taking a slightly wider shot like this is also lovely.
【6】 Ginza
With landmarks such as Wako and Ginza Mitsukoshi, there are many iconic buildings in Ginza.
Brides who have taken photos there point out that the "crowded atmosphere, which is more lively and integrates into real life than Marunouchi," is a deciding factor in choosing Ginza.
Taking a photo with the Ginza 4-chome exit gives it a Metro poster vibe♡
It’s also a brand street, so you can capture photos like this too! The Bulgari illumination in Ginza is a winter classic.
【7】 Roppongi (Keyakizaka)
While it leaves a strong impression of brides getting photographed at Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Keyakizaka in Roppongi (the slope between Roppongi Hills and Roppongi Hills Residence, going up from TSUTAYA) is also a classic photo spot.
There’s a Louis Vuitton store, and the illumination is beautiful too. ♡
In the distance, you can see Tokyo Tower too.
The cherry blossom-filled Sakurazaka, which is one street over from Keyakizaka, is recommended in spring.
【8】 Yoyogi Park
Yoyogi Park is like an urban forest.
If you're thinking, "I want to take photos in a forest," residents of Tokyo can easily take photos in a forest at Yoyogi Park, can't they...?
The spacing of the trees varies from wide areas to narrower spots.
Taking photos in traditional attire is also wonderful.
However, since it can be crowded, you might be concerned about bystanders (you could opt for them to be edited out...), or you may feel eyes on you.
It’s suggested to shoot in early morning when it’s less busy.
【9】 Ebisu Garden Place
Instead of calling it Garden Place, it might be more accurate to refer to it as "in front of Joel Robuchon."
Wedding photos in front of Robuchon’s castle are romantic and beautiful.
There are also stairs.
With street lamps and benches, it feels like a country in Europe, doesn’t it?
【10】 Nihonbashi
When it comes to famous tourist spots in Japan,
Taking wedding photos in Nihonbashi, where the scenery is very beautiful, is wonderful.
The bronze statue of the 麒麟, which is a symbol of Nihonbashi, is quite beautiful. Looking at a photo taken together will surely delight your grandmother and mother.
I would be so happy if someone invited me saying, "Let's go shopping in Nihonbashi where ◯◯-chan also had their wedding shoot."
In front of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, which is designated as an important cultural property by the national government.
The intersection at Muromachi 2-chome is also a beautiful spot with the view of Edo Sakura Street.
【11】 Odaiba
Odaiba is a new area, but the Rainbow Bridge is still beautiful, isn't it?
At the spacious Symbol Promenade Park.
It's the bridge called Yume no Ohashi, located between Ariake Station and Tokyo International Cruise Terminal Station.
Isn't it amazing that you can take such dramatic and artistic photos under the Yurikamome station?
In front of the Statue of Liberty, the slope provides such lovely photos! ♡
【12】 Shinjuku
You don’t hear about Shinjuku being a pre-wedding shooting spot much... but taking wedding photos in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is also beautiful.
Did you know that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is designed to resemble the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris?
It's a stylish building! ♡
At night, it gets lit up, so night photos can be a great opportunity too.
I want to take photos at all of these! ♡
I have introduced some recommended and popular photo spots for wedding photos in my beloved city, Tokyo.
There are many shooting spots, but a lot of them are quite close to each other or reachable within about a 15-minute drive, so if you plan enough time, it might be possible to tour all of them in one day from morning till night.
✅ Places where I lived
✅ Places where I worked
✅ Places I visited
I think it’s wonderful to capture wedding photos in memorable places with someone special, as it makes those favorite spots even more memorable.
(This is a photo taken in Akihabara!)
If you have other recommended photo spots, please let me know! ♩
