Naturally Cute: Recommended Brand for First-time Colored Contact Lenses at Weddings*
2021.04.24 published
If you're considering color contact lenses just for your wedding or pre-wedding shoot*
Many brides may be thinking on their special day,
"Should I try color contact lenses...?"
"I wonder how color contact lenses are?"
It's not uncommon for brides to have these thoughts.
By wearing color contact lenses,
・You can make your pupils look noticeably larger.
・You can subtly and naturally change the color of your eyes.
The difference between wearing them and not is quite apparent.
The eyes are such an important feature of the face, and if wearing color contact lenses can enhance the cuteness of your eyes in a natural and unforced way,
You might start to feel optimistic about trying them out just once*
Therefore, in this article, I will introduce recommended types for brides who are new to color contact lenses.
[First] There are 1-day, 2-week options, but which one is best?
Contact lenses come in various types including 1-day disposable, 2-week, and 1-month durations.
If you plan to wear color contact lenses only on specified occasions like weddings or pre-wedding photoshoots, I definitely recommend "1-day" lenses.
While 2-week and 1-month lenses can be more cost-effective since they are used longer, they do require nightly cleaning to prevent bacterial growth and eye diseases, which can be a bit of a hassle.
Speaking from my own experiences with 2-week lenses,
When I'm sleepy or tired, even cleaning them can feel like a chore, and if I lose them or scratch them accidentally, that's a loss for 14 days which is shocking, and I start to lose track of how many days I've been using them.
(I might just be a little lazy... )
On the other hand, 1-day lenses are much easier to use since they are discarded after a single day, plus they are more hygienic!
Of course, as long as you follow the instructions, you can choose your preferred type based on your lifestyle and budget,
But for first-timers, 1-day color contact lenses are likely the most user-friendly option*
[Question] What points should I consider when choosing?
Next, let’s discuss the points to consider when selecting color contact lenses.
① How many lenses are included (how many days’ worth)
② Presence of prescription (if present, check if it fits)
③ What are the values of DIA and the color diameter in mm? [Important]
➡ DIA refers to the diameter of the lens (abbreviation for Diameter). For example, "DIA14.0" means a diameter of 14mm.
The length of the part of the lens that has color or patterns is called the color diameter. (Some brands may not display the color diameter.)
The size can change due to these DIA and color diameter values, so if you want to make your pupils appear larger, choose products with higher values.
Here are some numbers to keep in mind:
‣ DIA14.0mm / Color diameter 13.1mm or less: Size very similar to natural eyes
‣ DIA14.2mm / Color diameter 13.2mm to 13.5mm: Naturally enhances appearance
‣ DIA14.5mm / Color diameter 13.6mm or more: Significantly enhances appearance
For beginners, it seems good to try either DIA14.2 or DIA14.5 and choose the one that feels right.
(For those who only want to change the color of their eyes naturally, DIA14.0 is recommended.)
④ What is the water content percentage? [Important]
➡ Water content refers to the amount of moisture contained in the lens, which is important for preventing dry eyes.
Lenses are categorized as high water content if they contain more than 50%, and low water content if less than 50%.
Depending on factors like tear quantity and dry eyes, there may be suitability concerns, but high water content lenses tend to integrate more naturally with the eyeball due to higher moisture levels. Therefore, it is recommended for first-timers to start with color contact lenses that have over 50% water content*
⑤ What is the BC (base curve)?
➡ BC refers to the curve of the lens. The average BC for Japanese people is reportedly around 8.6mm to 8.7mm, so most products are designed within that range.
[Curious] Which brands look natural?
From here, I'll introduce several brands of color contact lenses that I recommend for a natural look, as someone who has been using them for over 5 years.
Be sure to try them for your wedding or photo wedding photoshoots*
(※ Please make sure to visit an eye doctor to check the condition of your eyes and vision before wearing color contact lenses.)
(※ There may be compatible and incompatible products, so try wearing them on a day off to see how they feel. Some contacts might cause pain or not adhere properly.)

Interested in color contact lenses*
For those thinking, “I’d like to try color contact lenses for my wedding or pre-wedding photos!”, I have introduced popular brands that can enhance your look naturally and without discomfort.
Start by purchasing items that catch your interest and try them out.
You will gradually understand what works for you once you wear them*
Especially for first-time users, a period of adjustment is essential, so take your time to debut color contact lenses♩
By the way, I always believed that the larger the DIA, the better! But as I've gotten older, I've transitioned to preferring color contact lenses that can only lighten the color of my pupils while keeping their size the same♡ (I feel like this is the most natural and elegant look!)
