What to Serve for Hina Matsuri?
March 3rd is the day to celebrate the health and happiness of girls, known as "Hina Matsuri." Many brides might have fond memories of decorating the Hina dolls and gathering around chirashi sushi with their families. ♡
Even after getting married, I want to cherish the seasonal events and hopefully not forget about Hina Matsuri.
Even if there isn't a daughter (or just two adults), let's celebrate Hina Matsuri each year while thinking of our parents who celebrated it for us, and also while thinking of a future girl who may be born, while, of course, praying for our own health and happiness. *
In this article, I will introduce "Hina Matsuri meals" that I found on Instagram.
I will introduce many main dishes using rice (like chirashi sushi!), so please find something you can make. ♡
<Chirashi Sushi>
When it comes to Hina Matsuri, chirashi sushi is a must.
Adding flower-shaped lotus root instantly makes it more vibrant. ♡
When you cut the flower-shaped lotus root in half, it looks like a pine tree. The carrots make it look like plum blossoms, creating an auspicious chirashi sushi. *
On top of the chirashi sushi are the Hina and Ohiromatsu dolls. The Hina doll's kimono is made of prosciutto, and the Ohiromatsu doll's kimono is made of cucumber. ♩
Adding temari (ball-shaped) sliced wheat gluten and sakura mochi to the usual chirashi sushi. This seems relatively easy to prepare. ♩
<Cup Chirashi>
The "cup chirashi," where chirashi sushi is packed into glass containers, has become a popular idea in recent years. When arranged together, it looks festive and enhances the party atmosphere. ♡
The rice is colored pink, and thinly sliced egg is shaped into flowers.
The rice is colored with zebure paste, resembling the colors of hishimochi. ♡
<Temari Sushi>
Cute round temari sushi.
It takes a bit more time than chirashi sushi or cup chirashi, but its cuteness makes you want to try making it at least once. *
Not only tuna and salmon but also avocado and lotus root can be included. ♡
Surrounded by Hina and Ohiromatsu dolls. ♡
<Rolled Sushi>
Recently, it seems that making cherry blossom-shaped rolled sushi for Hina Matsuri has become popular.
The center is egg, and five thin rolls colored with sakura denbu are rolled to resemble cherry blossoms. *
This is rolled sushi styled like chirashi sushi. It includes kelp, crab sticks, kinshi tamago, and sakura denbu.
<Hina and Ohiromatsu Rice Balls>
A bold idea of turning Hina and Ohiromatsu dolls into rice balls...!
A thin omelette is draped over the rice balls to resemble kimonos. For the half-collar, cucumber or prosciutto is used, while the Ohiromatsu doll's shaku is made of edamame, the Hina doll's fan is made of carrot, and the face is created with small eggs (maybe quail eggs...?) ♡
The Hina doll's kimono is decorated beautifully with ham. *
Layering kimono for a luxurious feel. ♡
What Kind of Hina Matsuri Will It Be?
I introduced recipes for "Hina Matsuri meals" that I would like to try making. ♡
I don't cook much, but I thought I might be able to manage adding flower-shaped lotus root to regular chirashi sushi…!
Even as a couple without children, I think it would be nice to occasionally buy plenty of tuna and ikura and enjoy chirashi sushi at home in the name of cherishing seasonal events. ♡
