What is a Signet Ring?

Do you know what a signet ring is?

A signet ring typically features a large, flat surface instead of the raised setting usually found with diamonds or other gemstones.

It is also known as a signet ring,

and historically, European aristocrats would use this ring to engrave a family crest or signature, drizzling wax on letters and documents to seal them.

(Similar to what we now call a sealing stamp!)

It is said that wearing the signet ring on the left pinky was the etiquette at the time.

For noblemen, it was the only accessory they could wear besides a wedding ring as a sign of their marriage.

Over time, variations such as embedding gemstones and engraving were introduced,

and now, there are various signet rings ranging from simple designs to more elaborate ones. ♩

There’s a bit of a bulky image

However, signet rings often have a thick and large appearance, giving off a somewhat "bulky" or "sturdy" image...!

This is the impression of fashion-loving men incorporating signet rings into their outfits.

Therefore, I’ve previously thought, "I would probably never wear a signet ring," and hadn’t really thought about it...

But then I discovered a more delicate design with a smaller and thinner surface area, which changed my perception.

The shapes of the signet surfaces vary from square to oval, and they are lovely. While they are certainly more unique than regular rings, they seem easy to wear as fashion rings or wedding bands.

I Want One with My Initials ♡

A delicate signet ring can look great plain, but engraving initials is also wonderful.

For wedding rings, engraving your partner's name could be a good idea? ♡

A design featuring initials alongside diamonds is romantic! ♡

Of course, having matching midi rings or pinky rings as a separate set from the wedding ring is also stylish.

My Image of Signet Rings Has Changed...!

I previously associated signet rings with being large and chunky, more of a men's accessory.

However, with such smaller and thinner designs, they seem easy for women to wear too! ♡

I think I will consider signet rings as an option when purchasing a new ring in the future. ♩
