Wedding Photos on Rocky Shores

When we think of location photos at the beach, the image that comes to mind is usually a blue sky, the sea, and sandy shores. However, recently, more and more brides and grooms are choosing "rocky shores over beaches."

At the edge of the coastline.

Here we are, standing on a rugged rocky shore, for our pre-wedding shoot.

Until now,

"I never thought of rocky shores as a photo spot. I mean, they have a somewhat desolate atmosphere."

"Even though it's natural, rocky shores have that exposed, wild feel from being battered by waves and winds..."

"While you often see it in overseas wedding photos, in the Japanese sensibility, rocky shores carry a somewhat dark, sullen image reminiscent of a suspense drama."

Many people probably thought this way.

But that is precisely the true depth of rocky shore photos.

Rocky shores are places of natural beauty, untouched by human hands.

Rather than being cute or happy, I think the charm of rocky shore photos lies in capturing "an overseas feel, a bit ennui, stylish, fleeting, but also dramatic and rustic—focusing on the atmosphere."

That said, even though we refer to them generally as rocky shore photos, the atmosphere of the pictures can change dramatically depending on the time of day and weather.

While "muted colors with a matte, sepia-like feel" is a common theme, the resulting photos will vary from person to person.

Most brides wish for a sunny day for their pre-wedding shoot, but for rocky shore photos, a cloudy sky may create a more atmospheric setting.

It makes you feel as if you are in another world ♩

A soft, pastel sky is far more suitable for rocky shore photos than a bright blue sky.

If you’re at a large rocky shore, you can intentionally create some distance between you two.

It evokes scenes that might be found in a drama or music video.

These rocky shore photos, capturing natural light and relatively bright settings, are also lovely.

A photo of the couple sitting on the rocks, laughing together, with the sea and greenery in the background—it’s a magnificent shot.

Taking a shot from behind can also be quite poetic.

Sunset, during the evening, is a perfect timing to aim for.

Where are the famous rocky shores?

While there doesn't seem to be a specific beach that is particularly popular for wedding photos on rocky shores at the moment,

in terms of areas, the Shonan, Hayama, and Zushi (Miura Peninsula) areas are standard in Kanto.

Some people choose larger nearby beaches, while others might be shooting at small beaches that only locals know about.
