Traditional Korean Rice Cake Sweets ♡

I found some cute Korean sweets on Instagram.

They are smooth and colorful, and at first, I thought they were candies, but...

The truth is, they are [rice cakes] ♡

It’s a traditional Korean dish called Songpyeon (송편).

A dish made in September*

Just like Japan's Obon festival, Korea has a holiday called Chuseok (Chuseok), where relatives gather to give thanks to their ancestors, visit graves, and pray for a bountiful harvest in autumn.

The date is the 15th day of the 8th month in the lunar calendar, but in modern times, it is celebrated every year from September 9th to 12th.

The dish eaten during this time is Songpyeon.

It is a small type of tteok (rice cake) made from rice flour, and it is filled with sweet red bean paste.

The name "Songpyeon" means pine leaves, and traditionally, it has a shape resembling a clam or crescent moon...

Cutely Arranged ♡

Nowadays, it has evolved into cute decorations resembling flowers, leaves, and smiley faces, looking just like tiny textile crafts, and these decorated Songpyeon are very popular ♡

For example.

Songpyeon Cake is Amazing ♡

I found something even more amazing...!

A Songpyeon cake topped with Songpyeon ***

It is decorated in a trendy birthday cake style, and the fluffy, chewy toppings of the rice cake are adorable.

It must have been surprising for ancient people to come up with such an idea using traditional sweets...!

If you have a birthday or anniversary during this autumn harvest festival, I would want to celebrate with a Songpyeon cake ♡

Koreans are Really Incredible...!

They have creatively arranged traditional rice cakes like Songpyeon and even placed them on cakes ♡

(I wondered if it would be like arranging tsukimi dango in Japan, but I couldn't really imagine it well 😂)

The dessert ideas that Koreans come up with are truly amazing.

I hope to try them someday ♩
