Surprisingly Unknown Types of Lilies ♡
Hello, I'm Haruno Tsuzaki, the editor-in-chief of marry.
Lily flowers have such a wonderful fragrance, don't they?
When displayed, they fill the room with a pleasant scent, and their appearance is elegant and impactful. They are one of my favorite flowers, but...
In fact, lilies, like tulips and cherry blossoms, come in multiple varieties, each with its own characteristics, so let me introduce them to you!
① Casablanca
Casablanca is probably the most popular type of lily and is the one you see most often in flower shops. It is also known as the "Queen of Lilies."
It has a large and magnificent impression.
Similar to roses, the meaning of the flower changes with its color; the white Casablanca symbolizes "nobility" and "purity." Pink represents "wealth and prosperity," while yellow Casablanca stands for "betrayal." (In Christianity, the color yellow is associated with betrayal because Judas was said to have worn yellow.)
In the wedding hall coordination plan announced by the Kyoto Brighton Hotel and marry, we made abundant use of Casablanca lilies! ♡
② Yama Lily
This variety is characterized by yellow lines on the petals and brown spots. It is also a large flower, with a single bloom usually around 20 cm in diameter.
It carries beautiful meanings such as "majesty," "dignity," "purity," "unadorned beauty," "unadorned love," "enjoyment of life," and "noble character."
③ Sorbonne
A cute pink lily.
Like Casablanca, it was developed from the Japanese Yama Lily overseas.
The yellow center, pink gradient, and white petals are its characteristics. The petals have a wavy, fluttery appearance, creating a cute and translucent look.
However, the meaning of this flower is not so favorable— it represents "vanity." I don't know who decides on these meanings, but it also conveys the meaning of "wipe away tears."
It looks so cute even in a bud state.
④ LA Lily
A smaller lily compared to Yama lily and Casablanca.
I particularly love the Pale Pink Party Diamond variety, as it's adorable.
Its meaning is "mystical beauty."
⑤ Trumpet Lily
The trumpet lily, with its elongated shape, is also lovely.
Unlike Casablanca, which blooms widely, it features graceful curves. It might be a nice choice when you want to mix lilies with other flowers but don’t want it to be the main flower.
Its meanings are "purity" and "sweetness."♡
⑥ There are also double-flowered varieties ♡
Both Casablanca and Sorbonne have "double-flowered" lilies that have more petals.
Here is the double-flowered Sorbonne.
And here is the double-flowered Casablanca.
They look incredibly luxurious and, when they are just beginning to bloom, they even resemble the shape of a protea flower.
Find Your Favorite Lily ♡
Lilies come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes.
Being able to specify or find the lily that perfectly fits the world you wish to express might make you feel a little proud as it combines knowledge and taste.
It seems like it would also help eliminate any misunderstandings with florists! ♡
