I Want Chopsticks That Won't Get Worn Out...
No matter how good the chopsticks are, they are still consumables.
Especially when you choose ones made of lacquer wood, they look beautiful and nice at first, but they're difficult to maintain (they are weak against moisture, and of course, dishwashers are a no-go...) It's tough for someone as lazy as I am to handle them.
The lacquer chopsticks I received have already become shabby, and I feel it's about time to look for new, beautiful chopsticks that are relatively easy to care for, but also elegant and uplifting. Here are some candidates I've found and would like to introduce in this article.
① Christofle Chopsticks
First up, when it comes to stylish chopsticks, there are the classic Christofle chopsticks "Uni."
A pair costs 5,500 yen. They are made of silver plating and resin.
You can even have your name engraved as an option, which is nice.
Currently, the only Christofle chopsticks sold in Japan are these "Uni" in three colors: white, black, and red. However, I've seen photos on their official Instagram of chopsticks made entirely of silver (?), which I find intriguing.

While these are not sold on the official Christofle Japan website, is this product available overseas...?
I'm curious.
② Titanium Chopsticks
While researching chopsticks, I became interested in titanium.
Titanium is a material that is resistant to odors and stains and has high durability.
Wooden chopsticks can get moldy or smell when soaked in water, but one of the good things about titanium is that it doesn't.
Being able to maintain cleanliness easily without becoming unsanitary is excellent for the functionality of chopsticks.
It seems to be relatively expensive, but it looks like one could use it for a lifetime rather than wooden chopsticks.
(They also wouldn't shorten from biting...!)
While searching on Instagram, I became enchanted by this one and thought, "What is this? I want it! It's beautiful...!"
This is a masterpiece from Akimoto Parts, a factory specializing in automatic lathes.
The twisted design and the sleek silhouette are fantastic.
I have no knowledge about lathes, but it became a hot topic on the factory manager's Twitter as, "This technology is amazing!" "It's the work of a genius!" "It's more like art than craftsmanship now."
I want it...!
The pure titanium Katsuki chopsticks made by Katsuki Glasses in Fukui Prefecture also had a beautifully slender silhouette.
③ Stainless Steel Chopsticks
When you saw the titanium chopsticks, didn't you think, "Ah! Those are the ones you often see in Korean BBQ restaurants!"?
Yes, the silver iron-like chopsticks are indeed a staple in Korean cuisine.
It seems that those chopsticks are often made of **stainless steel**.
Stainless steel is an alloy steel, meaning it is not just made of silver, titanium, or copper but is a mixture of various elements.
The properties can change depending on the proportions and types of metals mixed. For example, compared to titanium,
✅ It’s heavier.
✅ It’s cheaper.
✅ It has good thermal conductivity (it gets hot when eating from pots, etc.).
Stainless steel chopsticks can be found on various sites like Rakuten, from those that resemble Korean BBQ chopsticks to simple silver ones, with prices starting from around 300 yen.
