Will the venue have a theme park-like atmosphere!? It sounds fun to have a foreign presenter as the host 🎤

Who should we ask to be the MC?
The MC greatly influences the atmosphere of the wedding.
For example,
- We wanted a classic and elegant atmosphere for the wedding, so we asked a female former NHK announcer who has also hosted weddings for famous celebrities.
- We wanted our guests to have fun, so we asked a male comedian.
- Since we are a couple from middle school with many mutual friends, we asked the groom's friend to help liven things up.
We choose based on the image of the wedding atmosphere we envision. The way the MC speaks (and how they engage with guests) and whether they are male or female can drastically change the tone of the wedding, making it an important factor to consider.
The option of choosing a foreign MC!
When deciding on an MC (if not asking a friend), many people first decide whether they want a male or female MC…
Another option is to choose a foreign MC. Did you consider this option?
What benefits come from choosing a foreign MC?
Benefits of asking a foreign MC ➀ Guests with foreign backgrounds will be happy
The main (and realistically, very appreciated) benefit of asking a foreign MC is when there are guests who don’t understand Japanese.
For those who don’t understand Japanese (or only understand a little), they may find it hard to grasp what is being said if the MC communicates only in Japanese. It would be helpful if there were someone nearby who could interpret, but interpretation can be challenging (since weddings differ from everyday conversations…), making it difficult for these guests to fully concentrate on the ceremony.
Thus, if we bring in a bilingual or trilingual MC to make announcements in English or Chinese alongside Japanese, even guests who struggle with Japanese can enjoy the event without feeling left out.
Even if someone speaks Japanese, if many guests share a common native language, they might appreciate announcements made in that language too!
Benefits of asking a foreign MC ➁ Being a minority gives a sense of exclusivity
It's likely that around 90% of wedding MCs are Japanese, making foreign MCs quite rare. Thus, having a foreign MC inherently feels special.
It would be so cool to hear announcements like "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the TAKUYA and MISAKI wedding party" reminiscent of Disneyland or an airplane announcement!
This could create an extraordinary atmosphere, making guests feel as if they’ve stepped into a foreign theme park.
Benefits of asking a foreign MC ➂ Many are skilled at energizing the crowd
One of the appealing aspects of foreign MCs is that many excel in engaging crowds!
They often create an exhilarating atmosphere with their exaggerated reactions and enthusiasm (while Japanese MCs might feel shy or reserved in similar situations), so you need not worry about them being able to get everyone energized. You can rest assured they'll handle it well!
Considering hiring a foreign MC might be a great idea too!
I've shared the benefits of asking a foreign MC.
Yuma, who actually had a foreign MC at their wedding, mentioned they chose this option because "the wedding theme was New York" and "due to the current situation, we wanted everyone to enjoy that international vibe." On the day, the MC even participated in the entertainment and sang songs, and guests became friendly enough with the MC to take photos together, leading to great satisfaction!
(By the way, the MC who hosted Yuma's wedding, Greg Irwin, is known for Disney announcements and the NTT Docomo ringtone "You've got Mail"!).
If you're thinking that hiring a foreign MC sounds appealing, definitely consider this option! 🎤
