Bird-like Flower♡
Do you know this flower?
It's a flower with quite a unique appearance, isn’t it?
Doesn't it look just like a bird...?????
Many people must have thought so.
This flower is called the Strelitzia, or in kanji, 極楽鳥花 (Gokurakuchouka).
It seems it was named due to its resemblance to the bird of paradise (also known as the sickle bird) that inhabits areas like New Guinea.
Its other name is Strelitzia (this name may be more common).
In English, it's called the Bird of Paradise.
The name certainly fits its appearance!*
Gokurakuchouka is a flower that belongs to the banana family (Musaceae) and the genus Strelitzia, originating from South Africa.
It blooms year-round, is resistant to heat but sensitive to cold, and requires ample sunlight to flower.
The flower language conveys "Queen's Radiance" and "Universal."
Where's the flower and where's the calyx?
The yellow and orange parts resembling a crest are the flower, while the slightly pointed green part looks like a beak and serves as the calyx.
The thick and long stem is actually not a stem but the petiole of the leaves.
It can grow to about 1m to 1.5m in length*
Doesn't it look like a walking stick...?
Can be used in arrangements*
Gokurakuchouka is often arranged like this and used as an ornamental flower.
It’s an image you’d expect to see in restaurants and cafes.
It can also have a Japanese flower arrangement (ikebana) feel, and is indeed versatile, just as its flower language suggests.
It's also cute when included in bouquets.
With its tall stature and orange hue, it makes a great accent.
Holding one for a pre-wedding shoot is stylish♡
Gokurakuchouka is often used in flower arrangements, but
I found a bride holding just one Gokurakuchouka instead of a bouquet for her pre-wedding photos♡
Here is the photo by haruka (@thk_wed).
While it’s trending to hold a single lily, gerbera, or anthurium for wedding photos...
This is the first time I’ve seen a coordination featuring Gokurakuchouka♡
It looks stylish and has a modern vibe,
and it matches beautifully with a white kimono♡
This photo is also amazing.
The Gokurakuchouka, resembling a crane, appears as a pattern on the white kimono♡
If you look closely, you can see Gokurakuchouka decorated in her hair, which is lovely.
Using flowers as hair ornaments is fashionable too♡
Isn’t this shot just too cool...?
I think more brides will want to use Gokurakuchouka in the future.
