When it comes to popular performances at weddings, one that stands out is the [Dozen Ceremony] ♡

It is a ceremony in which the groom hands 12 roses (other flowers are also acceptable) to the bride.

The Dozen Roses has its origin in a proposal ritual that began in early 19th century Europe. It started from the practice of men picking flowers blooming in the wild and presenting them to women as a marriage proposal.

Since it is not feasible for the groom to pick wildflowers at the wedding...! When conducting a Dozen Roses ceremony,

- If it's during the reception, the groom retrieves the flowers that are set up at each table.

- If it's during the ceremony, it is common for guests to bring the flowers to the altar where the groom is.

What if guests bring the flowers during the ceremony?

I don’t think there’s a problem when it’s conducted during the reception where the groom retrieves the flowers himself, but...

If it is done during the ceremony, it is necessary to designate guests in advance to bring the flowers. (Moreover, to make it easier for guests to bring the flowers to the groom, they need to be seated close to the aisle.)

A standard way to designate guests is to prepare a sticky note with an explanation of the Dozen Roses in the wedding invitation, stating, “Please sit close to the aisle on the day.”

By writing this, guests who are designated for the Dozen Roses ceremony should be seated inside, allowing staff to distribute the roses before the ceremony starts.

There are sometimes mistakes in where guests are seated.

However, if the invitation only contains this sticky note, guests might end up sitting in the wrong places.

Since the sticky note is just included in the invitation, they might forget on the day or be confused about where the aisle seats are.

The staff also won’t know who the designated guests for the Dozen Flowers are (even if names may have been communicated), so there’s no way to verify if the guests sitting inside are actually the ones picked to distribute the Dozen Flowers.

Ideas for appointing guests on the day ♡

To ensure that the designated guests will definitely take part in the Dozen Roses ceremony...

We’d like to introduce an idea from makkiroom, who had their wedding in October 2022, which is very logical and gives a sense of specialness ♡

On the day of the wedding, makkiroom gave a [Dozen Flower Voucher] only to the designated guests at the reception.

Sticky notes can easily be overlooked or forgotten, but...

Giving a card called a voucher on the day adds an element of surprise, making guests feel "appointed! I’m so happy!"

Here’s how it went:＊

1. Hand out the vouchers at the reception.

2. Guests holding the vouchers enter first.

At that point, they exchange the voucher for a flower.＊

(Announcement for them to be seated on the aisle side for the ceremony.)

3. After this, other guests enter.

On the day, before entering the ceremony venue, staff will inform the guests, allowing them to exchange the voucher for the flower there. With this method, there’s no worry for the staff about confusing the guests.
