New Wedding Cake*
Wedding cake designs originally became popular overseas before eventually arriving in Japan.
Naked cakes and brush stroke cakes are perfect examples of this trend.
There are many others to mention...
Recently, I found a new wedding cake design that originated abroad and is likely to gain popularity in Japan, so I’d like to introduce it.
Chocolate Bark Decoration*
This design, called chocolate bark cake, is something you might have seen overseas.
Have you seen it before?
It has already been introduced on marry's Instagram, and brides who are sensitive to trends might already know about it ♡
Chocolate bark refers to thin, flat pieces of chocolate, especially those that are not neatly shaped and have a cracked appearance.
As the name suggests, it’s a decorative cake where cracked chocolate pieces are stood upright or inserted into the sides of the cake ♡
While it might be somewhat similar to the brush stroke chocolate with its single line drawing effect, the methods of making them are different.
Brush stroke chocolate doesn’t break when spread out. Chocolate bark cake uses broken chocolate for decoration.

The chocolate pieces that resemble crisp glass shards are what make up the chocolate bark cake ♡
Various Designs Available ♡
The design that I think is the cutest features chocolates embedded with flowers and sparkling glitter.
It looks like a pressed flower bookmark ♡
The randomness in the size and shape of the chocolate pieces is part of the charm of chocolate bark cake.
A chocolate bark cake decorated with different colors of chocolate on the first and second tiers looks vibrant.
Since the word “bark” also means tree bark, it seems like many foreign chocolate bark cakes have designs resembling trees or logs.
The decoration featuring a tree motif with flowers blooming is quite stylish ♡
There’s a cosmic decoration with round dragees and sprinkles scattered, making the cake and chocolate bark portions match in decoration ♡
A pattern where the sides are covered with chocolate bark gives it a towering appearance, reminiscent of an ice castle, allowing for various arrangements.
The white chocolate with colorful sprinkles also adds a cute, Korean vibe.
Will This Trend Catch On?
The overseas-origin chocolate bark cake is made by sticking pieces of broken chocolate onto the sides of the cake.
If it were to be used as a wedding cake...
It would be adorable for the bride and groom to take individual pieces of chocolate and feed each other in a playful way ♡
For a small wedding, the couple could hand out one piece each to all the guests, and everyone could enjoy biting into the chocolate at once ♩ as part of the entertainment.
While I haven’t really seen this in Japan yet...
It seems like a design that would be easy to incorporate, and it’s likely to become more popular in Japanese weddings.
Definitely consider it as a wedding cake option ♡
(Of course, I also recommend making it at home! I thought about buying Bel Amé's chocolate bars to attach to the cake ♩)
