We were living together. One day, about 1 year and 3 months into our relationship, we ended up having a breakup conversation at night due to a certain reason. That day was late, so we slept in separate futons, and the next morning was for a final discussion. We exchanged apologies and gratitude.

While I was thinking about how I needed to pack my things, I had been crying all morning and couldn’t move anymore. He was in the kitchen smoking a cigarette. Suddenly, without saying anything, he left the room. I was wondering if he couldn’t endure the atmosphere or if he was hungry, and while I was almost asleep from lack of sleep, I eventually dozed off.

I wondered how long I had been asleep. "Haruka... Haruka," I heard him calling my name, and when I opened my eyes, there he was standing with a bouquet. Groggy and unsure if it was a dream or reality, he said, "Haruka, I'm really sorry. I want to be with you. I won’t make you cry anymore. I will make you happy, so please marry me." This was his proposal words. I burst into tears. Laughing, I replied, "Thank you." It was the best I could do.

I heard later that he was really panicking at that moment and rushed into a flower shop in his loungewear. (laughs) He thought the gerbera flowers there looked like me and asked, "I’m going to propose, so please make a bouquet with this flower!" … in his loungewear. (laughs) The florist probably thought, "Are you proposing in that outfit?" It’s a funny story. I was really happy that he chose something that reminded him of me, as I’ve always loved gerberas.

He said, "I'm sorry it's not a ring," but it was such a surprise that I felt it was more than enough. It was definitely a whirlwind of emotions going from a breakup discussion to a proposal that day. (laughs)

Over a year has passed since that day, and I am truly grateful he chose not to break up, but to hold on to me. It was the day my normally indecisive boyfriend made a big decision. I still feel a rush of emotions when I remember that day. There's just over a month until the wedding. Right now, I am very happy.

The proposal happened last October during a late summer vacation trip to New York. (2 years and 4 months into our relationship)

I had planned a detailed itinerary for our 6 days of free time, so I had no expectation at all (°_°) Only one of the nights, I was told to keep my evening free because he was supposed to have dinner with his colleagues from the NY branch along with their wives.

On the day of the proposal, we headed to Times Square, where we were told to meet. As we were approaching, he led me toward a gigantic screen, and to my shock, there it was: "Will you marry me?" along with a photo of the two of us! In the famous TOSHIBA building.

At that moment, I was in such a panic that I couldn’t understand what was happening at all. Even when he opened the ring box (which only contained a necklace), my head was spinning, and instead of crying, I felt consciousness fading away. (laughs)

Moreover, he had arranged for a photographer to capture the entire sequence of events!!! (laughs) An American photographer suddenly appeared, adding to my panic. (laughs) "Congratulations!! Guys!!"

After that, we spent about an hour roaming around Times Square taking various photos. It’s truly special to have that important moment captured in pictures.

Even now, recalling that excitement brings it all back. I am genuinely grateful to him for such a grand surprise proposal. (;_;)

Apparently, back in June when our trip to NY was decided, he had already made up his mind to propose. The dinner with colleagues was just a complete lie! (laughs)

On my birthday last year, I had been told a few days in advance that he had made a reservation at the Park Hyatt restaurant, so I was quite hopeful for a proposal (laughs).

However, on the day of the proposal, we weren't at the New York Grill, which is said to be the proposal spot (although the Jirandole on the 41st floor was also a lovely restaurant ♡), and he just casually handed me a key case as a birthday present, and I was let down, thinking, "Oh, this time is different." (laughs) How pitiful. (laughs)

Then, he suggested we go to a bar, so we headed to the New York Bar on the 52nd floor. It felt like a sudden decision, so by that time, I had zero expectations. I was tipsy from the champagne we had at Jirandole, so I ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail while he ordered whiskey.

Just as we were about to toast, he subtly pulled back his glass and said, "I have something to say before I get too drunk," and then the proposal began. ♡

At first, I was wondering what was going on since we were about to toast, but as he started talking, I realized it was a proposal before he even finished his last words, and I ended up crying. Honestly, I can't remember what he said. (laughs)

But, being in a luxury hotel I had always dreamt of, with a Tiffany engagement ring prepared for me... It made me so happy that he was the one who asked me to marry him.

A month before the proposal, he had already prepared the ring, and when he saw me crying tears of joy, he also ended up crying and told me he wanted to propose sooner... It’s a truly happy memory. ♡

One year ago, on March 7, 2015, I was proposed to at Hoshinoya in Karuizawa ♡

It was decided that just a week after our trip to Karuizawa, he would be going to America for a year for work. When we returned from dinner, there was a large preserved flower arrangement in our room...! He had prepared preserved flowers so they wouldn’t wither even after being apart for a year. I was so touched that I started crying.

Then, he said, "I’m going to make you wait a year, but will you marry me?" and I cried even more.

After that, I received a thank-you letter for accepting his proposal (with the premise of acceptance, of course w), and we took a commemorative photo after I fixed my tear-streaked makeup. ♡

The next day, we rushed to buy a ring, and on the day we departed from Narita, we had a meeting with both families, and everyone came to see us off at Narita. He finally returned home just last week. (^_^) It’s truly a wonderful memory.
