Essential DIY for Weddings: "Paper Items"
Wedding paper items include "invitations," "profiles," "message cards," "garlands," and many others. Recently, the trend of unique, one-of-a-kind "DIY weddings" has become popular around the world.
Even if you can't make them all, why not try hand-making just one item? Working together with your husband is fun, and having even one hand-crafted item will surely make your wedding a lovely, warm occasion!
Cute Transformation of Paper Items with Fasteners: "Eyelets"
This time, we will introduce a crucial fastener for creating paper items. An "eyelet" is a type of rivet with a hole, used to thread "string" through paper, fabric, or leather products! Even if you don't know the name, you must have seen it before.
Review of How to Use an "Eyelet Punch"
You can buy eyelet punches at 100 yen shops, but I focused on the finish and durability and decided to purchase the "Open Industrial Eyelet Punch" on Amazon! I've chosen HB-255 eyelets (250 pieces).
The eyelet punch is 1,663 yen, and it includes 250 eyelets for 356 yen, so that's 8 yen each! Since you only incur the cost of the eyelet punch at the beginning, the more you use it, the cheaper each eyelet becomes!

Step 1: Setting the Eyelet in the Hole
Using the eyelet punch is super easy! First, punch a hole where you want to set the eyelet with a hole punch or similar tool!
Since one side of the eyelet is rounded, set the eyelet so that the round edge is facing the side you want to show.
Step 2: Holding the Eyelet Punch
Looking closely at the end of the eyelet punch, you'll see one side has a protrusion and the other side has a dent.
Set the protruding part on the round edge side of the eyelet (the side you want to show) and grip the eyelet punch firmly!
That's all you need to do! Just make sure you don't mix up the direction when setting the eyelet!
The back side of the eyelet gets secured like this with a serrated edge.
Now That You Know How to Use It, What Will You Create?
The "eyelet" allows you to add a cute touch to your paper items with just a little extra effort. You might be wondering what you can use it for, so let's take a look!
Adding Charm to Paper Items with Eyelets I: "Thank You Tags" for Petit Gifts
First up, here is the original "Thank You Tag" crafted with gratitude. This is the easiest paper item to create cutely!
By tying the eyelet thank-you tags to petit gifts given to guests at the reception or after-party with string or ribbon, you create a brand item that is uniquely yours and not sold anywhere else!
Adding Charm to Paper Items with Eyelets II: "Garlands" to Decorate Walls
Next, we have the "garland," which creates a beautiful space and entertains guests. Garlands made with thin threads, strings, or ribbons may sometimes require holes to be punched, which is the perfect opportunity for eyelets!
With eyelets on both ends, it serves as a chic accent in "denim," often called the "color that brings happiness," in light blue and blue. ... Denim? Not paper?
That's right! The charm of eyelets is not only in their cuteness but also in their ability to provide "reinforcement" for fabrics and leather products that could tear just from having holes punched in them!
Adding Charm to Paper Items with Eyelets III: "Table Numbers & Menus" to Brighten Tables
"Table numbers," which are often handmade since venues rarely prepare them, can be beautifully crafted by tying a simple brown card with eyelets to the vibrant white hydrangea table flowers, effectively hiding the stems.
Many brides are making their own "menu sheets." Eyelets can also be used to group several sheets of paper together! Having menus, profiles, and messages organized together makes them easier to read and look nice.
In Fact... Eyelets Come in Shapes Other Than Round "○"!
In the photos so far, golden round eyelets were used, but if you look around, you'll find other shapes! The part that threads string or thread is round, but the shape can be floral and cute.
There are surprisingly various color variations, right? The classic three colors for hearts are pink, red, and white!
Just by changing the type of eyelet, I think the atmosphere can change significantly! Be sure to look for some yourself!
There are also colorful eyelets available on Amazon!*➡︎
