Do you know about antique kimono?
Hello, I'm Haruno Tsuzaki from marry* Have you ever worn an "antique kimono"?? As the name suggests, antique kimonos are kimonos from a bygone era. The designs that evoke a sense of history and retro charm, rather than being newly made, are especially popular among stylish girls♡
The characteristic of antique kimono is its bold use of color!
The biggest feature of antique kimono is its bold color combinations and gorgeous patterns! Many were made for casual wear during the Meiji era to the early Showa period, and their unique designs and color palettes are lovely compared to kimonos made in recent years. The pop color combinations and patterns that evoke the scent of civilization enlightenment, featuring a mix of Japanese and Western styles, are also distinctive. It's recommended to coordinate with vibrant and colorful combinations like 'pattern × pattern' by pairing patterned kimono with patterned obi*
I tried on kimonos at "Kimono Colette" ♡
I love the vintage and antique atmosphere, whether it's wedding dresses, accessories, or home decor, so I also adore antique kimonos♡ But I was wondering where I could rent or buy them... Then, I discovered a specialty rental shop for antique kimono in Tsukuba, Ibaraki! I went to try them on together with marry model Naaho-chan♡
Here are the wonderful kimonos I tried on at Kimono Colette♡
Antique Furisode ① Tried on at Kimono Colette
First, this is the outfit that marry model Naaho-chan (a soon-to-be bride and hairstylist planning a spring 2017 wedding♩) tried on! It's a sky-blue based furisode! The entire kimono is adorned with auspicious patterns such as plum blossoms, traditional drums, and bamboo♡
When it comes to traditional wedding attire, white and colorful wedding kimonos may come to mind, but actually, the "furisode" style is also one of the traditional bridal garments♡
Antique Furisode ② Tried on at Kimono Colette
Here is a furisode with a retro pink and yellow color scheme♡ The variety of flowers blooming in this pattern is called "Hyakkaryouran," and it is quite luxurious♡ Kimono Colette, a rental specialty shop for antique kimonos, has many such retro and beautiful kimonos♡
Antique Furisode ③ Tried on at Kimono Colette
I also got to wear one♡ This is a black-based furisode, embellished luxuriously with colorful embroidery. It is said that the larger the area of embroidery and patterns on a kimono, the more luxurious it is.
I believe this kimono was a very high-priced item since it was made...! The vivid colors made me feel so happy just wearing it♡
Antique Furisode ④ Tried on at Kimono Colette
There are also charming furisode designs in pastel colors like this♡ The base color is a beige-pink, adorned with classic patterns such as fans, cranes, and chrysanthemums, all beautifully colorful♡
I'd like you to pay attention to the obi, too; it's a highly formal maru obi with patterns on both sides, and I had it arranged in a traditional decorative knot♡
Antique Furisode ⑤ Tried on at Kimono Colette
Kimono Colette has a wide selection of furisode, but the most popular one is the "black-based" furisode* This piece is a reproduction furisode originally created by Colette, which has been renewed from patterns that were made during the Meiji era and early Showa period*
Kimono Colette is full of stylish antique kimono♡
I introduced the wonderful furisode I tried on at "Colette," a specialty rental shop for antique kimono located in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki♡ The image of bridal attire for weddings usually strong with color-uchikake and shiro-muku, but the furisode style was also really lovely!
Of course, it would be the best to wear such wonderful kimonos not only for your wedding but also for pre-wedding and post-wedding photos and engagement ceremonies♩
