What is marriage, and what does it mean to be a couple?
Dating and then getting married. It is a given that couples stay together happily forever, but... it is actually very difficult, right? We want to maintain the affection and love we had when we first started dating, but over the years, those feelings can change.
One day in June 2015, in San Diego, California, an elderly couple who had been together for 88 years passed away almost simultaneously. Their names were Mr. Alexander and Mrs. Janet.
The true story of this loving couple passing away at the same time became news, resonating with people around the world, and prompting a reevaluation of love, as it revealed "a love that even death cannot separate."
This time, we will introduce the story of this very famous and wonderful elderly couple. Their story is filled with so much love that it could bring tears to your eyes…
How did they meet?
The protagonists of this story are Mr. Alexander and Mrs. Janet, a couple living in America. Both of them are Polish immigrants and childhood friends born in 1919! They fell in love at first sight when they were just 8 years old and started dating in elementary school.
Mr. Alexander served in the Navy during World War II, but they finally got married in 1940 when he returned safely. They were blessed with five children and truly enjoyed a happy life together…
After their marriage, Mr. Alexander worked at an advertising company, skillfully managing his job while spending quality time with Mrs. Janet and their children, including family vacations. In 1970, Mr. Alexander started his own advertising and fashion company. Mrs. Janet worked as the chief stylist at that company, and together they ran it in tandem. They spent time together both at work and at home.
After starting the company and moving to San Diego, their shared hobby became golf. According to their son, who joked that they were "always waiting with their putters," they loved golf so much that it eventually led to an accident. Mr. Alexander fell and fractured his coccyx.
After fracturing his coccyx, Mr. Alexander became bedridden and rapidly declined in health. Around the same time, Mrs. Janet also fell ill and was similarly confined to her bed.
Mrs. Janet had a sense that Mr. Alexander's time was drawing near. Even while her awareness was fading, she kept asking their daughter Amy, "Isn’t today the 29th?" Although it wasn’t actually the 29th yet, Amy responded, "Yes, it’s the 29th! Happy anniversary, Mom!" Mrs. Janet was incredibly happy to celebrate their 75th anniversary.
Their saying was, "When we die, we want to hold hands in our own bed and fall asleep in each other's arms."
On June 17, 2015, the fateful day arrived. Mr. Alexander passed away peacefully. When this was conveyed to Mrs. Janet, she got up and went to embrace him.
She then said, "See, this is what you wanted, right? You wanted to die in my arms. I love you. I love you. Wait for me, I’ll be right there."
Together in heaven, 88 years after falling in love at first sight.
The next day, as if fulfilling their promise, Mrs. Janet peacefully closed her eyes. Their wish of "to die in each other's arms" was realized, and they reunited in heaven.
What did you think? They fell in love at the tender age of 8 and spent a total of 88 years together until they passed away at 96 years old. Their story, filled with both happy times and tough times, evokes deep emotions. Just like this wonderful couple, I hope to walk through life with my husband saying "I love you" on our last day together…
