What are "Flake Seals"?
Do you know what "Flake Seals" are? Flake seals are stickers that are cut into small pieces along an illustration. There are many types available commercially, and you can find sets with dozens of sheets at LOFT or Hands in the sticker section.
Flake seals are often used for decorating planners and diaries. They can make things look very vibrant and cute just by sticking them on, which is highly recommended!
Here’s how to make your own flake seals! ♡
How to Make Flake Seals?? What You Need
The materials you'll need for DIY Flake Seals are:
① Free cut sticker paper
② Clear packing tape
③ Scissors or a cutter
④ Glue
⑤ Materials you want to turn into Flake Seals
Materials can be anything from printed photos and illustrations on paper, magazine cutouts, washi tape, stamps pressed on paper, to removable stickers. ♡
How to Make Flake Seals Step 1: Cut the Materials
Use scissors or a cutter to cut out the materials you want to use. Since you will cover the materials later with packing tape, make sure to cut them smaller than the width of the tape! If you want to create larger flake seals, it’s recommended to buy larger clear stickers instead of packing tape.
If you use pre-shaped notes, it saves you the hassle of cutting them out!
How to Make Flake Seals Step 2: Place the Cut Materials on Sticker Paper and Glue
Arrange the cut materials on the sticker paper with some space in between, and glue them down. It’s less likely to result in mistakes if you first arrange everything to finalize the positions before gluing!
If you're using patterned washi tape, you can stick it directly onto the sticker paper without cutting or gluing.
How to Make Flake Seals Step 3: Cover with Clear Tape
Once you've glued the materials onto the sticker paper, cover the area with packing tape so that the materials are fully covered. Be cautious as you can’t fix it once it’s on!
How to Make Flake Seals Step 4: Cut Along the Shape of the Material with the Sticker Paper
After applying the clear tape over the materials, cut around each piece using scissors or a cutter. Make sure to leave a few millimeters of space from the materials to avoid peeling off.
