Recent Shimekazari are Really Cute ♡
After Christmas, as New Year's approaches, you'll start seeing shimekazari decorations everywhere.
Traditionally, shimekazari decorations featured items considered to bring good fortune, such as kelp, yuzu, and daidai, but recently, there has been a trend of various styles of 'shimekazari wreaths' that are super cute ♡
But do you know what 'shimekazari' actually means?
Shimekazari is a standard New Year's decoration, and it is actually seen as a symbol of the sun god. Did you know that?
Shimekazari symbolizes Amaterasu Omikami, the sun goddess, and is decorated with the wish that the sun will continuously illuminate the world and that the gods will not flee*
When is the right time to decorate with shimekazari???
It is said that shimekazari should be put up between December 25th and 28th*
(The 29th is considered unlucky because of the '9' (meaning suffering), and the 31st is not very good either since there is only one day left until New Year's.)
Therefore, if you can't make it between the 25th and 28th, it's recommended to put it up on the 30th*
Here are some cute shimekazari wreaths I found on Instagram! For those who think, "I missed out this year...", please use this as a reference for next year ♡
