One Year into Marriage: A Helpful List of Things to Remember for Future Brides
2017.07.08 published
It has been a year since we got married*
Hello, this is Nagisa from marry*
I got married last June and celebrated my one-year anniversary last month♡
The year after getting married has been filled with various procedures and small details. Of course, since it was my first time getting married, everything was unfamiliar!
There were many moments when I thought, "If I had known more, things would have gone more smoothly..."*
So, this time, I would like to share with brides-to-be who are about to get married "things I thought would be handy to remember"◎
Please take it as a reference*
Handy tip 1: Gifts and Returns
When your marriage is decided, I believe you will receive many wedding gifts*
And when you receive wedding gifts, you will return them with "wedding return gifts," right? ♡
While you might think you won't forget who gave you a wedding gift... it's definitely recommended to make a memo!
It's good to write down who gave you what, as well as what and how much you returned as a gift. This will be useful when the person who gifted you gets married or when you give souvenirs from your honeymoon*
Of course, gifts are not just limited to wedding gifts; you may also receive gifts for the birth of a child or for a new home, etc. It's also recommended to keep track of who gave you birthday presents for your partner♩
➡ For remembering, an "interaction notebook" is recommended!*
Handy tip 2: Bank Account and Seal
When you get married, you may need to create or change bank accounts under your new surname*
At that time, it's very important to make a memo about your bank account and seal to avoid forgetting it◎
If you have multiple seals, you might definitely get confused about "which seal is for the bank account~".
I quickly forgot which seal was for what within a year of marriage, and had to go to the bank with my "old surname, new surname, and full name" seals and ask, "I don’t know which one is which...!"
Therefore, when opening a new bank account, be sure to note down your seal and also update your existing bank accounts to match the new seal. It may be a bit tedious to visit several banks at first, but I definitely think it’s best to unify them when you get married◎
Handy tip 3: Birthday List
After getting married, your partner's family becomes an important family too♡ So be sure to note down your partner's family's birthdays and their parents' wedding anniversaries♩
Many may already have their own family birthdays memorized since they've celebrated them so many times* Some might not have even written them down on a calendar! But,
surely, you might still tend to forget your partner's family birthdays.
It’s easy and recommended to make a list of everyone you need to give gifts to, including both your family and your partner's family and friends, during occasions like weddings♩
Handy tip 4: Souvenir and Gift List
After getting married, you will have an increase in various gift exchanges, such as wedding returns, birth celebrations, new home celebrations, year-end gifts, and souvenirs during visits home*
It can be a bit troublesome to think about "what would be good" each time you give a gift, so it’s a good idea to stock up on souvenirs you think are nice◎
If you find good treats while traveling, check whether they can be ordered online later as it will be convenient in the future♩
➡ For remembering, an "interaction notebook" is recommended!*
Handy tip 5: Household Budget
Finally, I want to introduce the household budget* I personally hadn’t kept a budget (allowance record) before, and I used the money in my account without particularly paying attention, but...
After getting married, I’ve been keeping a rough household budget* While before, it was just my money that I earned alone, now it's a shared household budget.
I think it’s important to keep track of the money coming in and out, so I recommend starting a household budget once you're married◎
Let’s make sure to take proper notes when getting married♩
I shared with you things I thought, "I wish I knew or did this" and "I'm glad I did this" when I got married*
For most people, getting married is their first experience. It can be tough to go through various procedures without knowing left from right, but if you keep proper management when getting married, you’ll feel more secure later on♩
Be sure to manage everything thoroughly from now on and create a wonderful married life♡
