I'm not good at cooking, but I want to cherish seasonal events
Hello, this is Haruno Tsuzaki, the editor of marry*
Suddenly confessing, I’m not good at detailed tasks. I’m also not very skilled at cooking.
I really enjoy looking at character bento and elaborate menu items; it’s exciting and fun to see, but I'm just an observer.
However, I love events like Christmas, New Year, and Valentine's Day, and I want to fully enjoy seasonal celebrations to enrich my life....!
Halloween is just around the corner, and I want to do something festive, but the next thing that comes to mind after costumes is definitely cooking.
I want to make Halloween-themed food, but since I can't do anything too big, I’ve been looking for easy menu ideas on social media.
I’m sure there are many brides-to-be who feel the same way, right?? In this article, I will introduce some Halloween dishes I found on Instagram that seem doable, even for a lazy person like me!*
Halloween Dish I Want to Try #1: Omurice
First, the dish I thought I might be able to manage is omurice.
Just draw a jack-o'-lantern face with ketchup on the usual omurice, and it’s done!
I also discovered a spider web version.
Halloween Dish I Want to Try #2: Sausage Fingers
This is another version using omurice, where sausages are stood upright to resemble fingers.
It looks scary like Frankenstein rising from the grave, but I think I could try mimicking it just by sticking five sausages upright into something...!
Halloween Dish I Want to Try #3: Whole Pumpkin Gratin
I’ve actually tried this once before!
Whole pumpkin gratin. If I can carve a face into the side of the pumpkin, I can just put white sauce, meat sauce, and ingredients inside, then pop it in the oven♩
Halloween Dish I Want to Try #4: Gratin
I also found a version that doesn’t use a whole pumpkin as a dish but just draws a face on a regular gratin dish.
Even if I'm busy with work or short on time, I might be able to manage something like this....?
Halloween Dish I Want to Try #5: Curry Rice
Making the rice for curry rice Halloween-themed was also a popular idea for Halloween menus.
Saffron rice is yellow, so it’s perfect for resembling pumpkins.
Shaping white rice into a ghost form and floating it in the curry like a night sky seems cute.
Halloween Dish I Want to Try #6: Temari Sushi
There’s also an idea of making temari sushi that looks like jack-o'-lanterns and ghosts using salmon and squid sashimi.
Making sushi from scratch is a bit hard and has a high hurdle, so I thought it might be okay just to take store-bought sushi and add faces with seaweed...
Halloween Dish I Want to Try #7: Decorated Croissants
I found a mummy made by decorating croissants with chocolate pens.
It’s difficult to make it from croissants, but if I just draw on store-bought croissants with a chocolate pen, even someone lazy like me might be able to do it....?
I’m going to try making Halloween food*
I’ve introduced some easy Halloween dish ideas that even a lazy and clumsy person like me might be able to try making.
This year for Halloween, I plan to have fun and challenge myself to make a cute dinner at home!♡
