Here’s what is needed to conduct the shoe game at the after-party:
☑ 2 chairs
☑ The shoes of the groom and bride
☑ A list of questions
With these items and an emcee to read the questions, you're good to go ♡
The method is very simple.
Place the two chairs back to back and have the newlyweds sit so they can't see each other.
Once seated, they remove one shoe and swap one shoe from each other.
Now they hold the groom's shoe in their right hand and the bride's shoe in their left hand, ready to start.
How to Play the Shoe Game?
Once the couple is ready, the emcee or guests will start asking questions to the couple.*
Questions might include things like, "Who fell in love first?" or "Who asked the other on a date?"—something related to the couple ♡
Guests will think about which one is correct, and the newlyweds will raise the shoe that corresponds to the correct answer like a flag-raising game.*
Since the newlyweds can't see each other, they can reveal their true feelings, creating excitement for the guests ♡
It's amusing for guests to watch the couple appear confused, embarrassed, or surprised when they look at each other's answers.
If many of your friends are lively, you might even spice things up with slightly bold or tricky questions at the after-party!
It’s a good idea to have the organizer prepare questions in advance or send a list of questions along with the RSVPs for the after-party.
Since they won’t know what questions will be asked on the day, the newlyweds will be filled with anticipation.*
Recommended Questions for the Shoe Game
Questions that generate excitement in the shoe game are those that convey the couple's love story or their relationship, or reveal unexpected sides of them that friends don’t typically see.*
Avoid questions that could lead to later arguments or create an awkward atmosphere.
For example, here are some recommended questions ♡
☑ Who fell in love first?
☑ Who asked for the first date?
☑ Who confessed their love first?
☑ Who was more proactive at the beginning of your relationship?
☑ Who is better at cooking?
☑ Who is more natural or naive?
☑ Who usually takes the lead?
☑ Who apologizes first after a fight?
☑ Who thought about getting married first?
And so on. Ending with the question, "Who loves the other more?" and having both the groom and bride raise their shoes at the end is also a lovely touch ♡
